While not much is known about their ancestors,two of the members of the Figarland clan occupy vital rolesin maintaining the status quo of the world.
The family was introduced in chapter #1086, when the patriarch, Garling, made his debut. This imposing figure used to be the Supreme Commander of the Holy Knights; a group of elite warriors referred to asthe World Government’s last line of defense. Next to nothing is known about his youth, although chapter #1096 did reveal that he was once a feared and cruel man, considered one of the best fighters in the world. In the present,he has become a member of the Five Elders, taking the place of Saturn, who died at the hands of Imu’s terrifying power.

Only two other members of the family have been introduced to the series as of chapter #1136. One of them is the current commander of the Holy Knights,Garling’s son Shamrock. Fans better know him asShank’s mysterious twin, as they look almost identical. The captain of the Red Hair Pirates was also confirmed to be a member of this family, as his adoptive daughter Uta, was pronounced a Figarland by the Five Elders during the latest film in the franchise, Red. This information was further confirmed in chapter #1138, where Shamrock openly calls Shanks his brother.

In Terms of Raw Power, Shank’s Family Could Be Much Stronger
One Piecefans know that the Monkey bloodline has produced some of the strongest characters in the series. Luffy himself, the most popular member of this family, has fought against monsters like Kaido or Saturn and won. His grandfather, Garp, was given the title of Hero of the Marines for his great contributions to the battle against Rocks D. Xebec and Gol D. Roger. Still, when compared to the power demonstrated by the members of the Figarland family, their dominance can be put into question.
Chapter #1055 is proof of the widedifference in power between Shanks and Luffy now. Although the Straw Hat captain is undoubtedly among the strongest pirates, his mentor’s Conqueror’s Haki managed to not only travel across the Land of Wano in seconds, but it was enough to scare Admiral Greenbull. Figarland might not have been as imposing as Garp during his youth, butthe recent powerup he received by replacing Saturnmakes him a terrifying opponent. Interestingly, there is no evidence of how powerful Dragon, Luffy’s father, or Shamrock are, as they have never been involved in a fight.

His strength and abilities have increased to the point whereeven the Five Elders have issues fighting against him. During chapter #1121, Luffy delivered a punch to Saturn powerful enough to send him flying off, a feat that only a handful of fighters could accomplish.
Garp, although far from his prime, has been hinted at having enough strength to go toe-to-toe against Akainu, one of the mightiest warriors in the world. During chapter #574, the former Vice Admiral had to be held down by his best friend, Sengoku, because he would otherwise have attempted to kill the Fleet Admiral. The Figarland family might reign supreme, but the Monkey bloodline could easily take their spot at the top if they are not careful.
