Sony has launched a beta testing program forPlayStationusers, promising access to a variety of different playtests. Similar to the Xbox Insider program, the new feature will allow players to try games early, both on PlayStation consoles and on PC (though it’s not clear whether this refers to a cloud gaming servicesimilar to Game Pass Cloud, or ports ofPS5-exclusive games to PC, likeFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth).

via the officialPlayStationwebsite today. In order to be eligible, you must have an active PlayStation account in good standing - i.e., no bans, restrictions, or violations. That also means you’ll have to live in a region where the PlayStation Network is available, and be of an eligible age. You’ll have to sign into your PSN account and answer a few quick questions about which demographic you fit into, and what kind of games you enjoy. If you’re approved, you’ll receive an email shortly confirming your involvement.

How To Get Involved

to be approved for the PlayStation Beta Program, you’ll have to answer a series of questions. The survey will ask for your favorite genres, preferred playstyle, single- or multiplayer preference, preferred platforms, and age. Presumably, beta invites will be distributed accordingly: for example, players who marked interest in RPGs will likely receive more RPG offers than those who marked interest in sports games.

When To Expect Indiana Jones & The Great Circle On PS5, Based On Everything We Know So Far

Indiana Jones & the Great Circle is coming to PS5 this spring, but doesn’t have a date yet; here’s everything we know about when it could release.

It’s especially interesting thatthe Beta Program allows you to mark PC as a preferred platform. That could meanPlayStation is going for a more multi-platform approach, and is using this program in part to test how its games run on PC. It could also be part of an attempt to expand PlayStation’s cloud streaming service to a wider variety of platforms - we’ll only know for sure once the program is underway.

What Kind Of Games Will Be Involved?

Those who successfully get into the Beta Program may periodically receiveemails inviting them to participate in beta testing. They’ll be able to download or otherwise access limited versions of various games via their preferred platform, which they’ll likely only be able to play for a limited version of time. Developers or publishers will collect feedback via their preferred methods. Do note that participation in the Beta Program is free, but is not compensated unless otherwise stated; you don’t own the games you get to try, either.

However, you may get a chance to play some big releases early, which may be worth signing up in and of itself. It’s unclear just what studios and games may be participating in the Beta Program at present, but the signup sheet allows you to select a variety of different genres, game modes, and playstyles, ranging from action to RPG to sports to FPS. It’s clear that Sony envisions this as a platform for a vide variety of games, from all sorts of genres and developers. Only time will tell whether it becomes a major help forPlayStation 5devs and players alike.
