The Universal film is right behind Disney and Marvel’sDeadpool & Wolverinestarring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, which amassed $636.7 million at the domestic box office in the summer. What This Means For Wicked

Wicked Will Likely Hit More Records Before Finishing Its Theatrical Run

The success at the box office may impact how long the movie will be in the theaters. While blockbusters usually remain in theaters for 12 to 15 weeks,Wickedhas the potential to stay longer, which means it will still be in theaters well into 2025. However, it likely won’t go any higher on the domestic chart, sinceDeadpool & Wolverineis ahead by just under $300 million. No. 3 for the whole year is an impressive achievement nonetheless, especially sinceWickedopened so late on the calendar.

Wickedis a record breakerand already one of Universal’s highest-grossing movies, which no doubt bodes well for the second part. Internationally, the film is a bit lower on the chart, standing at No. 8for 2024’s worldwide grosses afterKung Fu Panda 4andGodzilla x Kong: The New Empire. However, it stands a good chance of moving up a few spots in the coming weeks. That list is also topped by bothInside Out 2andDeadpool & Wolverine, which seem poised to end the year as 2024’s biggest winners.

Our Take On Wicked

Wicked Is A Must-Watch

Wickedis not only a commercial hit that has fans rushing into the theaters, butit is also critically well-received, with an approval rate of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.Screen Rant’s own Rachel LaBontegave it nine out of 10 stars in her review. The audience reception for the Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande-Butera-led musical is also overwhelmingly positive. The film currently has a 95% RT score, with many praising Grande-Butera’s and Erivo’s performances, and the details that enrich the classic story.

The musical adaptation takes place before Dorothy’s arrival in the land of Oz and sees Elphaba, one of the most misunderstood witches in Oz, become known as theWicked Witch of the West while tackling her friendship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. Even though the film is a prequel, it expands on the original tale fromL. Frank Baum’sThe Wizard of Oz. With incredible box office and critical success, it seemsWickedhaslaid the groundwork for its sequel to perform even better in 2025.
