Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) tries to salvage the situation by giving Hannah a knife. She tells Hannah to set herself and Kodiak free at night so they escape and lead home the survivors who want to leave the wilderness. However, the plan backfires, with Hannah killing Kodiak, who becomes the latest character to die inYellowjackets' 1990s timeline.

As Shauna points a gun at them and demands to know who gave them the knife, Hannah places the blame on Kodiak, and thrusts the weapon into one of his eyes before he can prove otherwise. Even Shauna, who has arguably become the most cutthroat of the Yellowjackets, is visibly shocked by Hannah’s brutal actions. At the same time, killing Kodiak can help convince Shauna that Hannah can be trusted.

One of their suspicions was related to the name Erik Cheong being sewn into Kodiak’s backpack, which led to speculation about Kodiak having killed the backpack’s real owner. In episode 9, Hannah asks Kodiak who Erik is, and Kodiak explains that he just got the backpack at a thrift store. These suspicions are another reason that Hannah is unwilling to put her life into Kodiak’s hands.
