Bad Sistersstar and co-creator Sharon Horgan explains how the Apple TV+ comedy went from being a limited series to getting another season. Developed by the trio of Horgan, Dave Finkel, and Brett Baer, and based on the 2012 seriesClan, the second installment of the dark comedy adaptation isset to arrive on Apple TV+ on November 13. It follows theBad Sistersseason 1 ending, in which the story of the abusive JP (Claes Bang) and his murder is clarified.
In an interview withScreen Rant’s Tatiana Hullender, Horgan spoke of the shift thatBad Sisterswent through after initially being conceived as a limited series. Horgan, who also stars Eva Garvey in the Apple TV+ show, spoke of how a perfect ending isn’t the right fit for a story about an abused wife who kills a man that she loved. In the quote below, Horgan also previewed what comes next for the series:

It was great, actually, once I got my head around it. Because we did think it was just a limited series, and it did seem to have such a perfect ending, but then a perfect ending isn’t true to that story of what happens to a woman who has been in a terrible abusive relationship like that, and who’s killed the man that she loved for years.
And the sisters, everything they went through in season 1, it just seemed like, “How do you tie a bow on it? Let’s get under it and find out what really happens.” The fallout of that kind of abuse, and the aftermath, really. And then, obviously, there’s a lot of story on top of that. But that was the thing that got me excited, to explore all that.
I’m just excited for them to see where we took the story, and I’m excited for them to get surprised. I think if you’re going back to a show that you love, your expectations are high, which is nerve wracking to me, but I hope we’ve brought enough surprises that are not all obvious, that are hidden, and that they feel like it’s the show but also that it’s different as well.
The Sisters Have To Live With What Happened
The trailer forBad Sistersseason 2lingers on the fallout from John Paul’s death, even as it introduces a new mystery. Grace (Anne-Marie Duff), who killed JP, is still reeling from the loss. At different points, Grace’s sisters try to comfort her and tell her that she’s done the right thing. This is an obvious complication over the ostensibly simple story of a horrible man who got what he deserved, though Grace’s sisters try to convince her that’s what happened.
But even as the new installment of theacclaimed Apple TV+ showtries to dig deeper into its first murder, it introduces another crime. The new episodes take placetwo years after the death of the abusive John Paul. The Garvey sisters are tossed back into the spotlight, finding themselves unsure of who to trust when old truths resurface. The dark comedy will expand on what came before, while also charting its new path.
The Show Has A Strong Foundation
The new installment also stars Eva Birthistle, Sarah Greene, and Eve Hewson, while featuring new and returning actors such asAndorandKilling Evestar Fiona Shaw, Owen McDonnell, Thaddea Graham, Barry Ward, Michael Smiley, Saise Quinn, Daryl McCormack, Yasmine Akram, Jonjo O’Neill, Peter Claffey, Deirdre Mullins, Lorcan Cranitch, Liz Fitzgibbon and Justine Mitchell. There is a danger in a second outing for a limited series that goes bigger and tries to extend what may be better off as a contained story.
Big Little Liesis perhaps the leading example of a show that might have been better off with a single season. But given the universal acclaim thatBad Sistersseason 1 received, with100% on Rotten Tomatoes, there’s a good chance that the adaptation remains as darkly entertaining as ever.
Bad Sistersseason 2 premieres with the first two episodes on Wednesday, November 13. From there, it will be followed by one episode each week until the finale on December 25.
