At the very end ofBlack Dovesepisode 1, it’s revealed that the prints on the bullet casings from the weapon that killed Jason belong to Elmore Fitch. In the2024 action show’s following episode, Fitch attacks Helen in her home, but before she kills him, he hints that he was hired by an extremely dangerous organization. While Fitch doesn’t reveal exactly who hired him, the identity of his client is confirmed inBlack Dovesseason 1, episode 5’s ending. At that point, Helen and Sam viewthe recording device that Jason hid, which includes video footage of Trent Clark killing Ambassador Chen.

Trent, the son of powerful mob boss Alex Clark, was in love with the ambassador’s daughter, Kai-Ming. Eventually, Ambassador Chen confronted Trent about getting Kai-Ming drugs and threatened to expose the crime. In response, Trent shoved Ambassador Chen over a couch, accidentally killing him when the ambassador’s head hit the corner of a nearby table.Maggie, who secretly fed information about Chen’s family to MI5, then met with Jason and Phillip about the video, leading Trent to order their deaths.

Trent revealed inBlack Doves’ finale that, since killing Ambassador Chen was his mistake, he wanted to clean it up on his own, without his mother’s help. Trent found out that Phillip Bray was snooping around after seeing the footage, so he had him followed, which led to Trent seeing the meeting between Phillip, Maggie, and Jason, with Helen being brought into it because Jason met her directly after.
Black Dovesseason 2 has not been officially renewed by Netflix.
Trying toget rid of anyone who could potentially expose the recording device’s contents, Trent had Fitch kill Jason and the others, but he wasn’t successful in killing Helen at her home. Ultimately, the conspiracy behind covering up Ambassador Chen’s death leads to some continued secrets within the government, as Stephen Yarrick is murdered while the Prime Minister, who was also complicit, prepares to resign. While Sam killed both Trent and Alex Clark, the crime family still has powerful connections who will want revenge, putting Helen and Sam in grave danger inBlack Dovesseason 2.
