What We Do in the Shadowsshowrunner Paul Simms addresses Baron’s storyline in season 6. Baron is adecrepit, but powerful vampire played by Doug Jonesin the popular seriesWhat We Do in the Shadows. In an exclusive interview withScreen Rant, Simms described a key element of Baron’s storyline inWhat We Do in the Shadowsseason 6. The showrunner stated thatthe vampire has “discovered the little creatures” from season 5 “secrete a special creamthat if he rubs on his skin, returns him to his former glamor.” Previously, audiences had seen a version of the character that saw Jones “wearing 50 pounds of prosthetic makeup.” In season 6,viewers will see the “actual beautiful, stately Baron.“Check out the full quote from Simms below:

I’ll give you a hot [scoop], he discovered the little creatures — the hybrid creatures that Laszlo made of Guillermo, that were half-Guillermo, half-frog — secrete a special cream that if he rubs on his skin, returns him to his former glamor. So, one of the most fun things about doing the show is that Doug Jones always has to be wearing 50 pounds of prosthetic makeup. It’s been so fun creating a storyline where Doug Jones can just basically be Doug Jones, and be incredibly funny in the way that he is, and not have to be some kind of creature, and you only see it in his body language, and in his eyes. So yeah, we didn’t want the charred, crispy, burned-up Baron. We wanted the actual beautiful, stately Baron, so you’ll see he has some great stuff in this season.

What This Baron Choice Means For Season 6

The Season Will Continue With Season 5 Themes

Over time, Baron has been through a lot of transformation inWhat We Do in the Shadows. During season 1,he was accidentally burned alive by the sunby Nandor’s familiar, Guillermo. He is buried by the vampire roommates but later is brought back in season 3. Baron’s already horrific visage, however, was worsened by the fact that his once-buried body was now rotting. As such, theWhat We Do in the Shadowscharacterhas already undergone immense physical transformation, so it will be interesting to see another version.

10 Times Nadja Was What We Do In The Shadows' Best Character

Even with an incredible ensemble cast, there were many times Nadja proved that she was by far the best character in What We Do In The Shadows.

In addition, the showrunner’s statement also confirms one way thatWhat We Do in the Shadowsseason 6 will continue a running gag from the previous season. Though a comedy series that works largely episodically, itoften takes bits of fantasy that could seem like short-term jokes (e.g. the Nadja doll) and turns them into longer-running comedic motifs. In this case, this will takethe form of continuing antics with the mutated creaturesthat Laszlo made in the previous season.

Why This Is A Promising Decision For Baron’s Character

Jones Is Great At What He Does

Though the main team behindWhat We Do in the Shadowsis great within themselves, I’m happy to see a side character like Baron getting more attention. As evidenced by his work with Guillermo del Toro and more, Jones is a master at physical acting, even in intense prosthetics. Stripped of some of his more intense makeup, however, it will be fascinating to see what Jones can do as Baron even without lavish add-ons.
