Obi-Wan Kenobiis one of the most belovedStar Warscharacters of all time, and there’s one popular theory that might just be supported byStar WarsLegends. Obi-Wan Kenobi first appeared in theoriginalStar Warsfilm (later retitledA New Hope), where he was played by Sir Alec Guiness; however, for the prequel trilogy, Ewan McGregor took up the role. It’s known that before the fall of the Republic and the Jedi inOrder 66, Obi-Wan went on many different missions to help keep the peace in the galaxy.

One of Obi-Wan’s more memorable character arcs came inStar Wars: The Clone Wars, when audiences were introduced to Duchess Satine Kryze. Satine was the pacifist leader of Mandalore during the Clone Wars, and she had met Obi-Wan years before when he and his master, Qui-Gon Jinn, assisted the Mandalorians. It was clear that Obi-Wan and Satine cared deeply for one another and likely would’ve gotten together if it wasn’t for their devotion to their people. However, one theory implies that the pair had been together, and that Obi-Wan had even fathered a child.

Star Wars Fans Have Long Theorized Korkie Kryze Is Obi-Wan’s Son

InThe Clone Wars, audiences are introduced toSatine’s nephew, Korkie Kryze, and though he ultimately doesn’t play a huge role in the show, audiences never learn who his parents are. It’s known that Satine had at least one sister,Bo-Katan Kryze, but she was far too young to be Korkie’s mother. Additionally, there seems to be no other mention of a Kryze child. This has led to the popular theory that Korkie is actually the child of Satine and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Considering Satine and Obi-Wan met while Obi-Wan was still a Padawan with Qui-Gon, if they had a fleeting romance that ended with the birth of Korkie, a timeline of about 15 years would line up. Audiences have never gotten confirmation of Korkie’s parentage, and that’s likely for a reason. If Korkie had a Kryze parent that wasn’t Satine or Bo-Katan,any number of characters could’ve had a throwaway line indicating who his parents were, but they never have, giving further weight to this theory.

Satine Stands Out Among Mandalorians Because She Hasn’t Continued Warrior Training

Unlike Most Mandalorians

Satine stands out amongst Mandalorians because she is decidedly not a warrior. The Duchess of Mandalore certainly knows how to defend herself and does it quite well. However, she never seeks out violence and never goes on the offense in an attack. It’s clear that Satine had some kind of battle training as a Mandalorian, but that it was discontinued. It’s unclear when Satine’s warrior training stopped and why.

Satine is clearly not as skilled as other Mandalorian warriors, but she can at least hold her own when it comes down to it.

It could be thatSatine’s training was stopped because she became the Duchess of Mandalore, but other members of her family - most notably Bo-Katan - didn’t halt their training because of their position. It’s also clear from the stories both Satine and Obi-Wan told inThe Clone Warsthat their first meeting was action-packed. In fact, most times audiences see Satine, there is some kind of danger or coup taking place. Satine is clearly not as skilled as other Mandalorian warriors, but she can at least hold her own when it comes down to it.

And It Fits Perfectly With the Korkie Theory

In the 2006Star Wars Insider#86, it’s revealed that firstborn daughters remain with their mother until they are married, while sons are trained by their father. While both sons and daughters would receive some combat training at the age of 13 to be considered true adults, it was typically mothers who were responsible for their daughters' training, and fathers responsible for their sons' training. If Satine had a son with Obi-Wan, then it could explain why Korkie didn’t seem to receive any training;his father would have been responsible for training him.

Satine’s own lack of training fits with this theory, too. If she had a son, thenshe would have been responsible for his education, not his warrior training. This means Satine would likely have had to give up her own warrior training to focus on giving Korkie the education he needed, although it’s more likely that Satine voluntarily stopped her own warrior training - or was forced to give it up due to her duty to serve as the heir to Mandalore.

Satine Kyrze was killed by Darth Maul inThe Clone Warsseason 5.

Legends may no longer be canon, but Dave Filoni has made a point of slowly recanonizing aspects of Legends, and it’s possible that this Mandalorian tradition could be next. With Mandalorians and Mandalore being a huge focus in the currentNew Republic Era, it’s possible that this part of Mandalorian culture will come back. ThoughStar Warshas largely avoided references and mentions of Satine Kryze in recent years, revealing her as the mother of Korkie would be a great way of connecting differentStar Warsstories withObi-Wan Kenobi.
