Agatha All Alongfeatured an unexpected cameo from the Simpsons and fueled anMCUtheory that has me convinced.Agatha All Alongis well underway in depicting the titularwitch traversing the Witches' Roadand tackling its trials alongside a ragtag coven. Unsurprisingly, themes of the occult pervade the show and offer a refreshinghorror-tinged spin on Marvel’s typical formulawhile being crammed full of pop culture references and inspirations - with the parallels between the Witches' Road and the Yellow Brick Road ofThe Wizard of Ozbeing particularly prominent.

The show is also liberal with plot-related breadcrumbs for the audience to follow. BeforeAgatha All Alongbegan airing on September 18, it was revealed the original song used to access Witches' Road contained details about how the plot would progress. Sharon Davis' death was one event heralded by the lyrics of “The Ballad of the Witches' Road,” but another hint was contained in the credits as white lilies - flowers typically associated with death - were included next to her name. This fact makes me believe there are moreclues hidden in theAgatha All Alongcredits.

Lisa wearing a witch costume from The Simpsons in Agatha All Along (2024) end credits

How Lisa Simpson Can Appear In Agatha All Along’s End-Credits Sequence

The Simpsons Is Now Owned By Disney

The credits sequence at the end ofAgatha All Alongepisodes contains a litany of witch-based references that mostly comprise paintings depicting the trials and tribulations of convicted witches throughout history. Other pop culture references are scattered alongside these, including a shot ofSnow White’s Evil Queen in her witch form cackling. Surprisingly enough,Lisa Simpson fromThe Simpsonsis also shown wearing a witch’s outfitfrom season 20, episode 4: “Treehouse of Horror XIX.”

Agatha All Along Review: Marvel’s Horror Series Has A Strong Start But I’m Keeping Expectations Tempered

The first four episodes of Agatha All Along are full of witchy fun for spooky season, but don’t quite make a case for it as necessary Marvel viewing.

Given Disney owns Marvel Studios, seeing a Disney-owned character like the Evil Queen isn’t an unexpected addition to a pop culture-laden montage. The once Fox-owned Simpsons characters now also fall under Disney’s purview following its acquisition of the studio in 2019, which is also whyFox’s X-Men have been appearing throughout the MCU. This is also whyThe Simpsonsis available to stream on Disney Plus. Given the credits already signposted one big development, however, I’m convinced that using a shot from this Simpsons episode, in particular, runs deeper than Disney simply flaunting its rights.

How Agatha All Along’s Simpsons Reference Fuels Wiccan Theories Explained

Lisa Insists In That Scene That She Is A Wiccan

Despite sporting a stereotypical witch’s outfit, Lisa Simpson insists in “Treehouse of Horror XIX” thatshe is a Wiccan and not a witchafter Millhouse compliments her “witch costume.” Marvel may be replicating this misunderstanding by including Lisa in a montage full of witches, but I doubt it. Marvel has a famous track record of hiding pertinent Easter eggs throughout its movies and shows, andAgatha All Alongis rife with them. Instead, I am sold on the theory that Lisa’s Wiccan costume was included purposefully to signify the presence of one “Wiccan” in this coven of witches.

It feels prudent for Marvel to debut Wiccan soon as its Young Avengers have started assembling and he is a founding member of the group in Marvel Comics.

The prevailing theory aboutthe true identity of Joe Locke’s Teenis that he is Billy Kaplan/Maximoff, AKA Wiccan from Marvel Comics. Many hints inAgatha All Alongsuggest this, from his sexuality to the shots of him using Wiccan’s signature blue magic in the trailer. The Lisa Simpson reference may be particularly niche, but I love the idea that it was specifically included to hide the truth in plain sight - thatTeen, like Lisa in this scene, is not a witch, but Wiccan.

The MCU’s Simpsons Cameo Could Mean More Unusual Crossovers In The Future

The MCU Already Showed That Alternate Universes House Different IPs

So far, the “strangest” crossovers in the MCU have been when two Marvel IPs have collided, such as the three Spider-Men inSpider-Man: No Way Homeand the myriad cameos inDeadpool & Wolverine. These have all been facilitated in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga by the multiverse itself, making it entirely explicable that thenon-MCU Marvel moviesof yesteryear take place in alternate universes. Including a shot ofThe Simpsonsin theAgatha All Alongcredits alludes to the notion that the now Disney-owned franchise is also among these alternate universes.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesscanonized universes in which everything is a cartoon in a fleeting sequence. During their brief jaunt across the multiverse, America Chavez and Doctor Strange briefly find themselves in a comic book-style universe that even changes their own biology to match their surroundings. WithThe Simpsonsnow being shown inAgatha All Along, the eventuality of featuring the Simpsons as part of another universe before the Multiverse Saga is through seems more feasible than ever - though I honestly hope the franchise refrains from capitalizing on the opportunity.
