The Last of Us Part 2 Remasteredon PC is releasing on April 3, and players with a PlayStation Network account will receive bonuses from Sony, including a skin from Naughty Dog’s upcoming project. Connecting a PSN account isn’t required to play the PC game, something Sony learned aftertheHelldivers 2PSN controversy, but the publisher still wants to incentivize players in the PlayStation online ecosystem.

Per thePlayStation Blog, thebonus skin has Ellie wearing Jordan’s red jacket fromIntergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Linking a PSN account also gains the player “50 in-game points to activate bonus features.” The blog post clarifies that PlayStation 5 players can also get theIntergalacticjacket for Ellie by unlocking it through in-game bonus points. Sony also detailed PC requirements and optimizations forThe Last of Us 2 Remasteredon PC and announced new additions to the No Return roguelike mode.

Everything New In The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered For PC

New Content And Maps Will Immerse Players Like Never Before

In addition to the new skin,The Last of Us Part 2 Remasteredon PC will have the same updates as the PS5 release, which came out in January 2024, including commentary from the developers, guitar freeplay, andthe challenging No Return mode.

The Last Of Us DualSense Controller Couldn’t Be Coming At A Worse Time

The new PlayStation controller to celebrate The Last of Us is great, but its timing is terrible as the series seems to come to a permanent end.

For the PC release, No Return will receive brand-new content that was not included in the PS5 version, including the addition of Bill and Marlene fromThe Last of Us Part 1tothe roster of No Return characters. They’ll each come with a distinct play style — Marlene, as a Risk Taker, will use a custom rifle, have the ability to change her route, and offer unique gambits. Bill, a Smuggler, has a custom shotgun accessed through dead drops and can earn double rewards.

No Return will also get some new maps: Overlook, School, Nest, and Streets. All are locations encountered acrossThe Last of Us Part 2’sstoryline.PS5 players should know that their version of the game will also get all of these new featureswith a version 2.0.0 patch the same day the PC version is released.

Our Take: Sony Doesn’t Require PSN, But They Still Want You To Have It Anyway

Players Are Resistant To Sony’s PSN Membership Push

Even thoughThe Last of Us 2 Remasteredon PC isn’t behind a membership wall,Sony is still offering incentives to get players into its online service. However, this tactic of optional bonuses shows a change in strategy afterplans for requiring PSN forHelldivers 2on PC were reversed. WithThe Last of Usbeing a much better-known property, the studio was likely reluctant to make moves that would lead to any sort of player backlash.

PC players who really want thatIntergalactic: The Heretic Prophetskin are left with no option: they either make a PSN account that they wouldn’t use otherwise, or go without it.Time will tell if Sony’s efforts to lure in customers will be effective, or if they attempt to make PSN accounts required again for future PC titles.
