The Cleaning Lady Season 5: Will It Happen? Everything We Know

Fox’s crime drama series The Cleaning Lady returned for season 4 in early 2025, but will the gripping thriller get renewed for season 5 soon.

Uy Unpacks The Cleaning Lady Season 4 Premiere

“This felt different. This felt like the introduction of something bigger.”

ScreenRant: What stands out to you aboutThe Cleaning Lady? It’s definitely not your typical network series.

Alain Uy: It’s not. It seems more serialized in some ways. I think that’s what really stands out for me. It has the elements of shows that you would see on, say, HBO or one of these other cable networks, but it’s a network show, and I think that’s the first thing that pops for me. The second thing that pops for me, initially, when it first came out, was it was telling an immigrant story with faces and cultures that I’m familiar with.

And so obviously I was rooting for it being half Filipino. It’s like, “Oh my God. They’re actually showing families that I can relate to in that way.” But yeah, those are the things that really stood out to me initially for this show. And then as you watch, you’re like, “Oh, there’s a lot going on here.” And the world keeps getting bigger and bigger and that’s why we’re in season 4 now, where the world does get a lot bigger, and I think the audience is going to be in for a treat.

What surprised you most when you got to watch the season 4 premiere?

Thony in The Cleaning Lady season 4, episode 2

Alain Uy: The first thing that popped for me was just the visual language they were using. And what I mean by that is, when I was watching the first couple of seasons, for some reason, this felt different. This felt like the introduction of something bigger.

And I really liked where Thony’s character was going, especially where she was at the airport and considering leaving, and that choice she makes to stay and really fight for what she believed in. I think that sets up the story for the whole season. Those are the things that I look for in terms of story. But honestly, just watching everyone act, all my castmates that I didn’t get a chance to work with, I’m like, “Whoa, this is awesome.” It was a joy to watch.

Uy Explains Why Feng Wants To Work With Jorge

“I’m going to latch onto this guy. He’s going to potentially put me in a position where I could probably survive some more.”

You have a few lines in the premiere that already say a lot about your character’s personality. Why doesn’t he share everyone else’s hesitancy to join Jorge’s operation?

Alain Uy: I think Feng is an opportunist, and that’s really how he survived. I see him, maybe this is not the most apt description, but like a New York rat that’s just there and surviving. And when he sees an opportunity to eat something or to live, he’s going to do it. And I think in this instance, it’s a very small introduction to the character, but you’ll see as the character unfolds throughout the season, that there’s more going on with him.

He’s observing everything. And I think in that particular scene where Jorge is making the pitch, I see it. Feng sees it. He sees the potential of it, but he also sees a winner and goes, “I’m going to latch onto this guy. He’s going to potentially put me in a position where I could probably survive some more.” That’s what he sees for sure.

What might that dynamic between Feng and Jorge look like?

Alain Uy: There’s obviously hesitancy on both sides to fully trust each other. As the season goes on, you get to see the inner workings of the new leader of Sin Cara and his lieutenants, and I’m one of the new lieutenants backing him. In any of those instances where you’re in a position of power, you’re always looking at the other people around you.

Can I trust you? Can I trust this person? And that is going to be the relationship that you see as it goes on, that sort of interplay of that, and the dueling motivations behind those two characters. So I think audiences are going to have a good time with how this unfolds.

The Cleaning Lady Season 4 Will Feature “Playful Banter” Between Feng And Thony

“You have no other recourse but to also match that intensity and that vibrancy.”

I’m assuming Feng will have some scenes with Thony. How was working with Élodie Yung?

Alain Uy: She is a force. I remember the first day on set, and it was funny, we shot Episode 2 first for me. So my first day was that second episode, and it was a very involved scene between the two of us where we really get to see Feng and play. But I remember the first day arriving on set, and she was dialed in. She was a pro’s pro.

To me, that set the tone for everything. If she’s taking this extremely seriously and being present for these characters, then you have no other recourse but to also match that intensity and that vibrancy. I really enjoyed working with her. But as far as the characters go, there’s a lot of playful banter between the two.

Feng is not the type of person that will hold his tongue. He will point things out as they go. As you may see in that first episode where he’s just like, “Eh, it’s fine. These guys lack vision. I see you though.” And I think that’s what’s really intriguing about this character. It’s really fun to play too. It’s not often you get to play someone like that.

Is there a specific episode that you’re looking forward to viewers seeing this season?

Alain Uy: For me, just selfishly, the next episode’s going to be really fun. In the first episode, we’re transitioning from what happened in the past, moving on to this other world. Where is this season going to go? How is this going to be different from what audiences and fans have seen these past three seasons?

The second episode really dives into Thony’s drive to find something that maybe she’s always been hesitant to fully embrace. And I think that second episode of the next one next week is going to be something that weighs a lot. Now, personally, I think Episode 5, only because you really get to see Feng’s backstory and who he is, and it’s a lot of fun. And then the back-half is insane. As I’m reading the scripts as they were coming along, I’m like, “Whoa, okay. This is great. Where are we going with this?”

Uy Teases “Revelations” By The Cleaning Lady Season 4 Finale

“It sets it up for potential fun stuff for season 5 if we get picked up.”

Are there any questions you have about Feng that aren’t answered this season?

Alain Uy: Everything that wasn’t answered, I just made up in my head. But they set me up pretty well. When I first got the offer, I was looking at the character breakdown, and then I spoke to Daniel Cerone about it. The first thing it says is that he was an actor in Hong Kong, and he was always playing the second fiddle to the hunky, Kung Fu du jour.

He’s the second guy all the time and that spoke volumes to me. This guy is always trying to prove himself. He’s always going to try to read the room, but also sneak in and maybe steal the scene, because that’s what he would do in his backstory. So that really propelled a lot of the story background for me for who this character is.

In terms of what hasn’t been answered for me, the one thing I’m really curious about him is, more or less, what created the wound for him. Why is he doing this? And again, I don’t want to spoil it, but there are certainly points in the story where you’re like, “The thing that he wants is strange, but also why?” But it sort of gets revealed at the end. It sets it up for potential fun stuff for season 5 if we get picked up.

Do you have any other upcoming projects now that you’ve wrappedThe Cleaning Ladyseason 4?

Alain Uy: I do. Right before The Cleaning Lady, I was filming Ballard, which is a spinoff for Bosch, starring Maggie Q for [Prime Video]. So I did that. I wrapped that as I transitioned into The Cleaning Lady. And before that, I’m going to also be coming back for the third season, I believe, of Power Book IV: Force, which is the spinoff to the regular Power universe starring Joseph Sikora and his character Tommy Egan.

So all of those things are coming out later this year. As far as future projects, there are a bunch of things that are cooking up, and I can’t really say what they are until they release the press release for it, but be excited. There’s a lot of fun stuff coming.
