Superboy is Officially DC Comics Canon Again
An Interesting Period in Superman’s Life is Finally Back
Before he served as the DC Universe’s greatest protector, Superman cut his teeth as a superhero in his hometown during his teenage years. The idea of Superboy began as a spin-off proposed by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel to capitalize on the immense success of Superman. After a couple of stories, Superboy headlinedAdventure Comicsfor over 200 issues, becoming the series' trademark character. However,Crisis on Infinite Earthsmade a lot of sweeping changes to continuity, including the erasure of Clark’s Superboy days. However, DC has sporadically revisited the idea of Superboy, including as recently asDoomsday Clock.
Admittedly, continuity has been tricky in recent years for various parts of DC history, and Superboy was one of the hardest puzzles to solve (and that’s without even bringing the Legion of Super-Heroes into it). That being said, this is an interesting development. Not only is DC Comics properly acknowledging that Clark was, in fact, Superboy, but the publisher is allowing that chapter of his life to be deeply explored for the first time in decades. Though some may balk at the idea of Clark as a hero as a teenager,it’s an interesting avenue to explore for Superman.

Superman’s Smallville Days are Critical to His Development
Fans Can See How the Boy of Steel Became the Man of Tomorrow
While the Superboy years aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, it’s a charming period of Clark’s life that showcases a side of him that fans rarely get to see. A more inexperienced, unsure version of the hero that wants to do good, but still understands so little of who he is or what he’s able to do. Sure, Superboy is a far cry from the hyper-confident and skilled legend that fans know and love. But watching Clark Kent grow into the hero he’s destined to be is sure to be a real treat for anyone who lovesSupermanhistory.
Action Comics #1087is available from DC Comics on June 11th, 2025.
