Stephen King’s glowing review for a horror series with a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes,Teacup, has elicited an emotional response from star Boris McGiver. The Peacock original series is loosely based on the bookStingerby Robert R. McCammon, following three families who become trapped on a ranch as a series of terrifying supernatural events unfold. Thecast ofTeacupincludes McGiver’s Donald Kelly, who gets stranded on the Chenoweth ranch when he and his wife chase their dog to their property. King praised the series before its release, comparing it toLostandFrom.

Speaking exclusively withScreen Rant, McGiver praised writer and creator Ian McCulloch for his work onTeacup, expressing joy and surprise at King’s positive review of the series. The actor explained why King was right for observing the lack of filler or downtime in the episodes, explaining how every scene in the show has a purpose. He highlights a particular scene starring Yvonne (Maggie Chenoweth), describing the unpredictability of some characters as circumstances evolve. Check out what McGiver had to say below:

It’s a really well-written show. Ian’s a master, and I was happily surprised by Stephen King saying what he said, but then you realize, “Oh, it’s because it’s a really well-written show.” And being a really good writer, he knew good writing when he saw it, and I believe that’s why he said it, because he doesn’t have to say that stuff. He’s Stephen King, for God’s sake. But he saw good writing, and he saw interpretation, the visual interpretation and sound interpretation of that writing done so well, so that’s why, and viewers will understand why. I think he said, “It’s all thriller and no filler,” and it’s true. Even in the very muted scenes where there’s not, apparently, a lot going on on the outside, there’s a lot going on on the inside. And that’s great writing, and all that can be just as suspenseful. And it’s why, back to that scene with Yvonne, we’re not sure, because these people are so different. You think, “What’s what’s really going on? Is there something more? Is she gonna hurt him? Is he gonna hurt her?” But because people don’t know, but they’re very muted scenes, they can be just as suspenseful.

What McGiver’s Statement About King’s Review Means For Teacup

The Show Feels Like Something The Horror Icon Would Write

Starting from whenTeacupepisode 2 ended, revealing the extent of the supernatural elements of the show, the series has felt like something King himself would have written. The show revolves around a group of people trapped in an isolated location as terrifying events happen around them, similar to the horror author’s novellaThe Mistor his novelUnder the Dome. This makes his praise understandable, especially since there’s mysterious figures like the Gas Mask Man and the woman in the woods who bolster the show’s cryptic mood.

New Stephen King-Approved Horror Show Is Perfect To Watch Alongside From Season 3

A new, Stephen King-approved horror show is perfect to watch alongside From season 3, with both series sporting plenty of similarities.

McGiver’s sentiments about King’s review shows how much his words mean, especially given how McCulloch’s writing evokes the horror icon’s own. Alongside the engaging mystery being presented, the show is also only taking parts of McCammon’s original novel when crafting its story. This opens the door for a potentialTeacupseason 2, something that could expand the show beyond its already terrifying premise. However, it’s clear the focus right now is on the small-scale mystery it evokes, and the dangers still to come for everyone on the ranch.
