AStardew Valleyfan has raised an interesting point about a feature missing from the game. Havingpets is a major part of theStardew Valleyexperience. Although they’re incredibly easy to care for (just add water), they’re nice to have around the farm, and the feeling of satisfaction you get from raising their affection levels to the max is unparalleled - even compared to some of thefull-fledged romanceable companions. But some fans wish they were more than just mildly interactive decorations, suggesting a new feature that could quite literally change the game.
In a Reddit thread, userFew-Site1112askedwhether it was possible to bring their dog inside at night to keep him warm and toasty. They explained that it pains them to leave the dog outside during winter, and accompanied the question with a screenshot of their player character and dog wearing matchingBeanies. Unfortunately, though, there’s no official way to bring your pets inside inStardew Valley. While they’ll often wander in and out of your house independently, there’s no way to control them, or summon them to your side.

This Stardew Valley Fan Wants Their Dog To Be Nice And Toasty
And Fellow Fans Offer Their Perspectives
It would be nice to be able to bring yourStardew Valleypets inside when there’s snow on the ground (or really, whenever you wanted). But because it’s not possible, commenters on the original post offered alternate interpretations. Many, likeExpress-Olive6547, pointed out thatit’s difficult to getreal-life dogs to come inside when there’s snow on the ground, as most dogs (especially long-haired ones) would take playing in the snow over anything the indoors has to offer.
Others shared in-game solutions to their cold pet worries. UserD3rangedButFunsuggested putting a fire next to the water bowl might help, giving the dog a warm place to curl up if they ended up sleeping outside. (That might assuage some fears, but there’s still the worry of making the dog’s water too warm.)

Userfrogallyhad a different kind of idea. Sure, there’s no way to bring your dog in on cold weather days in vanillaStardew Valley, but the modding community’s creativity knows no bounds. There is, indeed, a mod for that: Cold Pets, uploaded to Nexus Mods byTrain2000. The mod does exactly what it says on the tin, simply influencing your pets' behavior to make them favor staying indoorsduring the winter.
But even that’s not a catch-all solution, as mods are still exclusive to PC. Even so,there are many ways to adjust to the idea of your virtual pets staying out in the cold, from giving them a source of warmth to simply reframing the idea.
Our Take: This Feature Could Bring A New Level Of Immersion To Stardew Valley
Here, Boy!
But I can hear you now: they’re only virtual pets, bundles of pixels, so why should anyone care?People put real dedication into theirStardew Valleysaves; I’ve reloaded the game just because I missed a favorite villager’s birthday. Having reallove for your in-game cats and dogs, and coming up with clever solutions to care for your pets, is just par for the course.
The Cutest Piece Of Stardew Valley Secret Furniture Can Only Be Found On This Date
One of the biggest, and cutest, plush items in Stardew Valley can be found hidden right in town, according to one of the secret note quests.
But this does shed a light on an area whereStardewis lacking: the variety of interactions with pets. At present, all you can do is pet them, give them water, and get gifts; it’d be nice if the game included something a little more in-depth. Something as simple as a “call pet” command, a dog whistle item,a dedicated “pspsps” button, would add tons of depth to pet interactionswithout being too complicated. The pet could run to your side and follow you around for a minute, strengthening your bond.
Maybe it’s just a pipe dream, but you can’t deny it’d be cute. If nothing else, it would give manyStardew Valleyplayers peace of mind like they’ve never had before.
