Warning! This post contains a preview for Star Wars: Ewoks #1

A newStar Warsseries is teasing the canonical fate of theEwoksin the aftermath of Endor. While the primitive bear-like natives of Endor were crucial in the Rebels' defeat of the Empire inReturn of the Jedi, the Galactic Civil War didn’t end on Endor despite the second Death Star’s destruction and the Sith Lords' defeat. As such, new threats are emerging, and the Ewoks are now seemingly on their own.

Death Star Explosion in Background with Endor Ewok

Following theBattle of Endor, a new preview for Marvel’sEwoks #1by Steve Orlando, Alvaro Lopez, Laura Braga reveals that the pieces of the remaining Empire still have a vested interest in the forest moon. This is due to a large weapons depot hidden on the moon, resulting in new teams of Imperials being sent to retrieve the vast cache of weapons in the ongoing battle with the Rebellion.Meanwhile, it looks as though the Ewoks are concerned about what comes next for their various tribes:

Having learned they aren’t alone in the galaxy, the Ewoks are discussing how they should interact when and if they come into contact with future visitors from other worlds. However, this debate should be less of an issue once they learn that the Empire is making a return.

The Rebels Have Left, But New Threats Are Coming To Endor

The Empire Is Coming Back

In the canonicalStar Warstimeline, the Galactic Civil War didn’t end with the Rebel’s victory on Endor. Instead, the war wouldn’t officially conclude until theEmpire’s surrender following the culminating Battle of Jakkualmost a year later. To that end, it’s understandable that the Rebellion would eventually leave Endor and the Ewoks as they still had a war to win, having finally gained a critical advantage following their recent triumph which rocked the Empire to its core.

To that end, it seems likely that the Rebels hadn’t even considered that the Ewoks might be in danger once they left. After all, it’s not as if the forest moon had any known tactical or strategic value following the destruction of the shield generator that had been protectingthe second Death Star in Endor’s orbit. As such, the reveal of this major weapons cache is a real game-changer, one that will likely pit the Empire against the Ewoks alone.

Wickett

Star Wars' New Series Is Wicket’s Chance To Prove Himself

Becoming A True Tribe Leader

Having spoken up during a tribe meeting about finding new ways to join their voices and song with others, the young Ewok Wicket (who first met and helped Leia inReturn of the Jedi) was quickly silenced in favor of older warriors who are seen proposing a more aggressive stance regarding the idea of meeting future outsiders. As such, it’s clear that Wicket will likely receive some key character evolution in this new series. With any luck, Wicket will gain greater confidence in his own voice and ability to lead as Marvel’sEwokscontinues.
