While the world is waiting forShang-Chi 2, Simu Liu gets very coy about whether hisMarvel Cinematic Universecharacter is inSpider-Man 4. With Phase 5 coming to a close this year, 2025 will also kick off Phase 6, the final chapter in The Multiverse Saga. One of the heroes who is finally making his way back tothe MCU timelineis Peter Parker, asSpider-Man 4will be going into production later in 2025 after several years of being in development.
During his latest appearance onThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Liu gave a careful response about what is going on withShang-Chi 2, stressing that he appreciates the love and enthusiasm there is to see his sequel get made. However, when Jimmy Fallon asked him if Shang-Chi could be in Tom Holland’sSpider-Man 4, Liu stammered a bit before sharing the following response:

Oh, I’m not even… I’m not even going near that one. I haven’t heard anything, [but] I love people who love those movies, and I also love those movies.
What Simu Liu’s Comments Mean For Spider-Man 4
While Liu may have dodged theSpider-Man 4questions,it wouldn’t be shocking if Shang-Chi were to actually show up in Holland’s Phase 6 installment. Even thoughShang-Chi 2hasn’t progressed as much as many were hoping for,Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsdirector Destin Daniel Cretton will directSpider-Man 4, establishing a connection between the two respective franchises. Having Shang-Chi team up with Spider-Man would also be a way for Cretton to not only revisit the character he brought into the MCU, but lean into the street-level concept that many want to see in Holland’s sequel.
Even if Liu is part oftheSpider-Man 4cast, he wouldn’t be allowed to announce it either way, since it’s up to Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios when it comes to revealing who is or isn’t part of the film. If there is a scenario where Shang-Chi is part ofSpider-Man 4in any capacity, they may want to save that announcement for when principal photography officially begins. There is also the possibility that Liu isn’t fully signed on yet forSpider-Man 4, meaning he definitely can’t talk about it at this point, as it could affect negotiations.

Our Take On Simu Liu’s Cameo Comments
While he may not be answering it right now, a Shang-Chi appearance inSpider-Man 4would make sense if he first appears inAvengers: Doomsdayand then gets carried over into Holland’s sequel. SinceSpider-Man 4will be releasedafterAvengers: Doomsday,it’s likely that Holland’s movie will deal with some of the fallout that happens in the previous Phase 6 film. Having some connectivity through a character like Shang-Chi inSpider-Man 4would allow the two movies to have an organic bridge before getting intoAvengers: Secret Wars. But for now, the world will have to wait and see if Shang-Chi is part ofSpider-Man 4.
