Resident Alientends to pair the same characters together quite often based on their chemistry, but the show’s third season included a relatively unused team-up that worked incredibly well and needs to be revisited when the sci-fi dramedy returns. The brilliant dynamic between members of theResident Aliencastis a huge part of what has made the show successful. AlthoughResident Alienseason 3’s cliffhanger endinglooked as though it would go unresolved for a while, theconfirmation ofResident Alienseason 4meansthe residents of Patience, Colorado will be back for at least one more run.

Resident Alienseason 4’s story could go in several directions, and there are more possibilities than ever before for unexplored character pairings. AlthoughResident Alienseason 3 consisted of just eight episodes(a record low for the show), it still managed to find the time to give viewers something new while continuing the larger story. There is one specific scene that demonstrates the comedic benefits of allowing two characters, in particular, to interact away from the rest of the cast, but there could also be other advantages moving forward.

Harry & D’arcy Is An Underrated & Underutilized Resident Alien Character Pairing

Alan Tudyk & Alice Wetterlund rarely share a scene alone

Alan Tudyk’s Harry Vanderspeigle’s most common accomplice inResident Alienis Asta Twelvetrees (Sara Tomko). The two have a strong bond based on various factors, which explains why they’re shown together so often. However, the show has occasionally shaken things up and given Tudyk alternative scene partners and the result has been brilliant. One of the lesser-used partnerships in the show is Alice Wetterlund’s D’arcy Bloom teaming up with Tudyk’s character.Harry and D’arcy’s chemistry is perhaps unexpected, but their interactions perfectly encapsulate the show’s comedy label while not ignoringResident Alien’s dramatic elements.

Harry Vanderspeigle’s Powers & Abilities In Resident Alien Explained

Alan Tudyk’s Resident Alien character has several skills that have proven to be instrumental in defending Earth and advancing the show’s plot.

Resident Alien’s most common character pairing (other than Harry and Asta) is probably Sheriff Mike (Corey Reynolds) and Deputy Liv (Elizabeth Bowden), which makes perfect sense given their professional ties. That being said, being forced together by narrative circumstances hasn’t hurt how brilliantly they work together. For a long while,D’arcy and Harry didn’t have any real reason to appear alongside one anotherin any meaningful way. Thankfully, since she discovered Harry being an extraterrestrial inResident Alienseason 2, the pair have been given a few more opportunities to collaborate.

Harry & D’arcy Breaking Into Joseph’s Apartment Was One Of Resident Alien Season 3’s Highlights

The unexpected kindred spirits hype each other up after minutes of insults

Harry and D’arcy’s first big storyline together was when they briefly dated inResident Alienseason 1. It was clear that Harry had no romantic interest in Wetterlund’s desperate character, and that very fact was pretty much the entirety of the mini-arc. Although she continued to be a big part of the show,D’arcy’s storylines rarely overlapped with Harry’s after their weird and forced romance. Eventually, the chance for them to work together finally arose inResident Alienseason 3, episode 2, “The Upper Hand,” while infiltrating the apartment of Joseph Rainer (Enver Gjokaj), the Grey Alien hybrid.

The absence of Sara Tomko’s character brilliantly proves how Harry and D’arcy not only need a leader to help them be their best selves but also how much of a social buffer Asta is between Tudyk’s character and Wetterlund’s.

Their relationship in this scene is worlds apart from how it was portrayed in the show’s inaugural run, asHarry and D’arcy fling endless insults at one another with sidesplitting speed. Their comic timing is perfect together, even if their characters are intentionally written to be an incredibly poor team. The absence of Sara Tomko’s character brilliantly proves how Harry and D’arcy not only need a leader to help them be their best selves but also how much of a social buffer Asta is between Tudyk’s character and Wetterlund’s. Without her there, it’s so wonderfully chaotic.

Why Harry & D’arcy Work So Well Together In Resident Alien

Tudyk’s character is very similar to Wetterlund’s in all the best ways

Despite the show’s heightened reality, manyResident Aliencharacters are relatively reservedwith their thoughts and opinions. For many of Patience’s townsfolk, it takes a great deal to get them to speak their minds without fear of judgment or consequence. Harry’s nature as an alien who is largely unversed in human customs quite often breaks this tendency, as he’s pretty much always doing and saying things that suit his own needs with either no awareness or care about how others will be affected. This is a rare trait among the characters who populate the show, but D’arcy also boasts it.

D’arcy has never really been very forgiving when it comes to Harry’s unpredictable and borderline unacceptable behavior.

When Harry is unknowingly selfish or just downright weird, understanding and levelheaded characters like Asta will call him on it or simply move past the moment without taking it too personally. The same is true of characters who are unaware of Harry’s true nature and just forgive his indiscretions, likely putting it down to him just being a little unusual. Inversely, D’arcy has never really been very forgiving when it comes to Harry’s unpredictable and borderline unacceptable behavior. Instead, she retaliates pretty much every time Harry irritates her, even if it’s just with a visceral insult.

Although only the first two seasons ofResident Alienare available on Netflix, all three can be streamed on Peacock.

D’arcy’s ongoing refusal to forgive Harry’s behavior often results in Tudyk’s character acting outagain in response, which then causes D’arcy to offer another form of retaliation. It creates a hilarious feedback loop that builds and builds and can be difficult to break. So, when this is considered, it’s not a massive surprise that they’d had so few scenes alone, as the story would likely slow to a near stop as it did in their “The Upper Hand” scene. That being said, the fact it was one of the show’s funniest sequences overall proves similar instances should happen more often.

How Resident Alien Season 4 Can Pair Harry & D’arcy Together

D’arcy will be vital to Harry’s attempts to defeat the Greys

After searching for purpose throughoutResident Alienseason 3,D’arcy ends the run with a big hero momentwhen she liberates the Hawthorne baby from theGrey Aliens’Star Wars-inspired shipat great risk to her own safety. The stakes aren’t exactly any lower by the end of season 3, as the Greys' ship is still in orbit, masquerading as Earth’s moon. Plus,Resident Alienseason 4’s new villain, the Mantid, will also pose a new threat. So,D’arcy will need to stay in action-hero modewhen the show returns.

This Forgotten Resident Alien Character Can Finally Return In Season 4 As A Villain

There’s a Resident Alien character whose exit from the show left the door open for his return, and the upcoming run of episodes is the perfect time.

Once Harry frees himself (and Bridget) from the Greys' imprisonment, he will undoubtedly be the one to lead the charge against the identity-stealing Mantid, while also continuing to attempt to bring downResident Alien’s Grey Aliens. Now thatD’arcy has far more knowledge about what Earth is up against, it wouldn’t make sense for her to remain on the sidelines. In fact, with almost the entire town now aware of the threat posed by the Greys, the main cast will be united in the fight, which means far moreResident Alienmoments with Harry and D’arcy team-ups.
