Resident Alienis known for putting many of its characters through a huge amount of turmoil, but the show’s upcoming season is gearing up to really pile on for one resident of Patience, Colorado. TheResident Aliencastis filled with character pairings with great chemistry that leads to some very funny moments, but the sci-fi dramedy doesn’t neglect its more macabre themes either. AlthoughResident Alienseason 3’s endingfeatured several cliffhangers, it’s pretty easy to tell where the next run of episodes will take certain characters, and one arc is very dark.

Resident Alienseason 4’s confirmationcame as a huge relief to fans of the show, asit looked for a while as if Syfy’s decision to drop the project meant the story would remain incomplete. Thankfully, after a jump to USA Network,Alan Tudyk’s Harry Vanderspeigleand company are coming back for at least one more run of episodes. The show’s continuation will answer a lot of the questions raised in the most recent finale, but not always withResident Alien’s signature sense of humor.

The Alien Tracker’s Resurrection Is A Very Dark Way To Soothe Liv’s Ailing Conscience

Liv already blames herself for what happened to Peter Bach

Terry O’Quinn’sPeter “The Alien Tracker” Bach was thought dead beforeResident Alienseason 3, with him being killed during a rescue attempt in the show’s second run. Because it was Deputy Liv Baker (Elizabeth Bowden) who summoned the Alien Tracker to Patience, she blamed herself for his apparent death and has regularly shown to experience huge amounts of remorse. With Peter Bach’s shocking comeback inResident Alienseason 3, Liv can arguably feel a little less guilty, but it’s a cruel solution from showrunner Chris Sheridan.

Why Only Certain Resident Alien Characters Can See Harry Vanderspeigle’s Real Face

Alan Tudyk plays Harry Vanderspeigle in his human and alien forms, but some Resident Alien characters don’t have the option of seeing him both ways.

The Alien Tracker’sTerminator-inspired aestheticinResident Alienseason 3 is only enhanced by the presence of franchise star Linda Hamilton. Peter Bach has been heavily experimented on to harness the power of his alien-spotting genetic mutation. Although he was believed to be brain-dead, it’s clear there is more of him left intact than originally anticipated by General McCallister. So, althoughthe Alien Tracker’s resurrection should help Liv feel less guilty, seeing what has been done to him will likely only add to her woes.

Deputy Liv Has Suffered A Deceptive Amount Throughout Resident Alien

Elizabeth Bowden’s character has already weathered so much adversity

Liv’s generally bright demeanor masks how much trauma Bowden’s character has already experienced. While she is genuinely a nice and selfless person, she has turned out that way despite her experiences rather than because of them. Althoughher dynamic with Corey Reynolds' Sheriff Mike is now far healthier than it once was, she had to put up with him undervaluing her and speaking down to her for a long time, withResident Alien’s fantastic karaoke sceneserving as their relationship’s biggest turning point.

It remains to be seen if she can remain equally resolute upon her reunion with the Alien Tracker inResident Alienseason 4.

Along with her rocky arc with her boss, Liv’s backstory takes another dark turn inResident Alienseason 3 when the reality of how badly she is emotionally abused by her grandmother comes to light. Add to that the fact that Liv has long been vilified for believing in aliens, she has done especially well to remain strong. Now, it remains to be seen if she can remain equally resolute upon her reunion with the Alien Tracker inResident Alienseason 4.
