Many of the most powerful magic items inBaldur’s Gate 3can be found in the Lower City during the third act of the game. Which is good, because it makes it hard to miss those items by progressing in quests too quickly. However, there are several incredibly strong pieces of gear that disappear from the game once players get to a certain point in a popular side quest.
The quest in question is “Find the Nigthsong,“which persists through each act of the game and culminates in a magical shop called Sorcerous Sundries. Here, talking with certain NPCs will move the quest into its final state. Many players will do this early in the act, which is unfortunate, given that a certain vendor will cease to sell powerful equipment once players get to this point.

The Magic Items On The Line
Great Pick-Ups For Casters And Martials Alike
The items up for grabs are all sold at the front desk of Sorcerous Sundries, either by a projection of the wizard Lorroakan, or his recent apprentice, Rolan. The difference there depends onwhether players kept Rolan aliveor left him to die in Act 2.If it is Rolan vending at this location, the items will be slightly easier to acquire, so that is preferable.
If Rolan is the vendor, he is not only more susceptible to being pickpocketed, but he can only be targeted by the spell feign death if the player has a high enough approval rating with him.

There are six unique magic items sold by this vendor, including thequickspell gloves, vest of soul rejuvenation, and thering of regeneration. Each is quite expensive, even with discounts players can get from affinity with Rolan or quests around the lower city. Regardless, Act 3 has plenty of money available through both legal and illegal actions, and players would be wise to spend whatever they have on hand acquiring these items when they first get the chance.
Lorroakan And The Nightstong
A Satisfying End To A Quest, But At A Great Cost
Proceeding further into Sorcerous Sundries eventually leads to a series of portals, one of which leads to Lorroakan, Master of the Tower, and a wizard searching for informationon the Nightsong. Players will know by this point thatthe Nightsong is actually a person, an aasimar named Dame Aylin. Players can tellLorroakan they have the Nightsong or that she’s dead; either way, they have the opportunity to tell Aylin about Lorroakan back in their camp, prompting her to fly to his tower.
This vendor will be unavailable until players either kill Lorroakan or help him capture the celestial.

This is the trigger for making all the aforementioned magic items unavailable. Once Aylin flies off, the projection of Lorroakan will vanish, and Rolan will proceed to the top of the tower. This vendor will be unavailable until players either kill Lorroakan or help him capture the celestial.
After that, if Rolan is alive and Lorroakan is not, he will take over the tower. But whoever rules the tower makes no difference:those magic items never return to the inventories of their shopkeepers. The projection will reappear downstairs (either of Lorroakan or Rolan), but will only sell spell scrolls. Rolan himself will not have the items on his person to be pickpocketed or looted. They are simply gone.
Why Do The Items In Sorcerous Sundries Vanish?
Is This Consequence Intentional Or Not?
Likely, this is some sort of bug from the end of the Nightsong quest. There is no story reason why these items should become unavailable in either outcome. But their loss can be devastating if players meant to acquire them later after amassing the necessary funds.
It also appears that, sometimes, certain items like thebirthrighthat can still be found in Rolan’s inventory. This would hint that this is unintentional, and that players are meant to still be able to get them. Still, until it is changed, players should remember to stock up on their magical necessities before time runs out inBaldur’s Gate 3.
