Warning! Spoilers for Rings of Power season 2, episode 6 ahead!Pharazôn had an eerie vision when he touched the palantír inThe Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerseason 2, and what he saw was an exciting setup for Prime Video’s next installment. 2024’s episodes have been predominantly dedicated to Sauron and Celebrimbor creating the titular Rings of Power and the impact of the Seven on the Dwarves of Middle-earth. However, the political climate in Númenor has been growing steadily stickier, and the events ofRings of Powerseason 2, episode 6 hint at what we can expect for Pharazôn’s story going forward.
Pharazôn took advantage of the discord in Númenor to become king, using theEagle that showed up at Míriel’s coronationto gain the last bit of support he needed. However, inRings of Powerseason 2, episode 6, Míriel survived the trial of the Valar. By emerging from the water, the queen proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that the Valar supported her rule. Naturally, this is pretty bad news for Pharazôn. Desperate for a solution,he headed forNúmenor’s palantírand placed his hand upon it. The future shown to him was one of flames, with Halbrand’s face standing out clearly.

Pharazôn Seeing Sauron In The Palantír Sets Up The Rings Of Power’s Season 3 Story
Sauron Is Key To Pharazôn’s Future
Rings of Powerhas already foreshadowed the great wavethat will destroy Númenor, and Pharazôn seeing Halbrand’s face in the palantír further hints that this catastrophe is on the way. In Tolkien canon, Pharazôn takes Sauron prisoner (not knowing his true identity), butthe clever villain manipulates the king to the point he actually becomes his most trusted advisor. Of course, Sauron advising a king of Men leads to nothing good. Under the Dark Lord’s influence, Pharazôn leads his people in an attack against the Valar in Valinor. The punishment for this is the doom of the entire kingdom.
Sauron plays an important role in Pharazôn’s future, but certainly not in a good way. Still, seeing Halbrand’s face in the palantír will likely make the king believe that the “man” (who was held prisoner in Númenor back inRings of Powerseason 1) is key to his success. This may cause him to seek Halbrand out, not realizing his true identity. Regardless of how their paths will cross again, this moment inRings of Powerseason 2, episode 6, indicates thatthis story is on the way and will likely be a primary focus of season 3.

Sauron & Pharazôn’s Relationship Will Be Eerily Similar To Sauron & Celebrimbor In Season 2
Pharazôn Is Doomed To Be Sauron’s Next Partner In Crime
Rings of Powerseason 2 has been largely dedicated toSauron’s work with Celebrimbor. The elf was easy for the Dark Lord to manipulate sincehis pride and desire to outdo Fëanor made him susceptible to Sauron’s specific brand of evil. It seems that inRings of Powerseason 3, Pharazôn will be the new Celebrimbor. He and Sauron’s relationship will start out promising, but things will gradually go downhill as circumstances twist to be at the villain’s benefit rather than the Númenórean king’s.
These two villains are sure to cooperate to devastating effect and clash with even more extreme consequences.
Of course, while prideful,Celebrimbor has never been an evil character. Pharazôn, on the other hand, made his horrible intentions clear before ever putting his trust in Sauron. This should mean for an even more thrilling story in the future inRings of Power. These two villains are sure to cooperate to devastating effect and clash with even more extreme consequences. We will have to wait until the next season to see it on the screen, but it’s certainly a lot to be excited about.
