Percy Jackson & the Olympiansseason 2 gets a new update from author Rick Riordan, who reveals how much filming has been completed. Based on Riordan’s hit book series of the same name, the popular Disney+ fantasy show premiered last year, following young demigod Percy (Walker Scobell), Poseidon’s son, as he embarks on an epic quest to recover Zeus' stolen lightning bolt with Annabeth Chase (Leah Jeffries) and Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri). After season 1 became a success, it was confirmed thatPercy Jackson & the Olympiansseason 2would be moving forward.

During a recent interview withComicBook.com, Riordan is asked about the status ofPercy Jackson & the Olympiansseason 2. The author, who created the show with Jonathan E. Steinberg, reveals thatthe sophomore outing is at about the “one-third mark” in terms of filming. While Riordan doesn’t reveal any major behind-the-scenes details about what’s been shot so far, he does affirm that the show is “on schedule.” Check out Riordan’s full comment below:

“We’re not at the halfway point in shooting, but I’d say we’re probably coming up on like the one-third mark. Maybe, you know, that’s just my opinion. That’s not official from Disney or anything. I can say that we’re on schedule and things are moving right along, and people are just working like you wouldn’t believe.”

What Riordan’s Filming Update Means For Percy Jackson Season 2’s Timeline

When Will The New Episodes Arrive On Disney+?

Disney revealed at D23 2024 thatPercy Jackson & the Olympiansseason 2 is set for a 2025 release date on Disney+. Riordan’s latest update suggests thatthe show is still on track to premiere its sophomore outing on the service next year, with fall or winter being the most likely windows. Season 1 premiered in mid-December 2023, so it’s possible that season 2 will also be a December release.

I’m So Glad Percy Jackson Season 2 Isn’t Leaning Away From The Best Part Of The Books

Rick ‘Riordan’s Percy Jackson books brought me joy with their epic hero, and I’m so glad that the show will continue to adapt the best bits of them.

With filming having started in early August 2024 and now about a third done, filming will likely be wrapping early next year. ThePercy Jacksonshow, however, requires a great deal of time for post-production and visual effects due to its fantastical setting and magical creatures. Season 2, which is poised to adapt the events of Riordan’sSea of Monsters, may get a first-look image before the year is out, but marketing for the batch of episodes after thePercy Jacksonseason 1 endingprobably won’t be kicking into full swing until spring or summer 2025.

Our Take On Percy Jackson Season 2’s Filming Update

Season 2 Will Hopefully Be Worth The Wait

Shows now can be bigger and feature massive budgets, but many modern series, especially those on streaming, now also feature fewer episodes and have longer gaps between seasons. Though a two-year gap between seasons may have been a long wait in the early 2000s, it’s now the norm, even for shows likePercy Jackson, which only consist of eight episodes instead of the previous TV standard of 22.

Still, though, the positivereviews forPercy Jacksonseason 1suggest that season 2 will be worth the wait. Scobell made for a great Percy, and the show’s supporting cast members like Jeffries and Simhadri, along with strong writing and directing, helped bring Riordan’s words to life. With filming still underway, morePercy Jackson and the Olympiansupdates and behind-the-scenes photos will hopefully arrive in the near future.
