Warning: Major spoilers for Reacher season 3, episode 8 “Unfinished Business” below! The most brutal death inReacher’sseason 3 finale didn’t come from Alan Ritchson’s title character, but a vengeful Agent Duffy. The end ofReacherseason 3is essentially non-stop action from the opening scene, where Jack and the gang bring down Quinn (Brian Tee) once and for all. The long-teasedReacher vs Paulie fightalso proved to be worth the buildup. Overall, it’s a remarkably happy ending - despite the high bodycount. All the heroes walk away in one piece, Quinn and Paulie are extremely dead and Duffy’s kidnapped informant Teresa (Storm Steenson) is rescued.

Teresa has been, for lack of a better term, a living McGuffin throughout the series. She went missing after going undercover in the Beck compound, and despite Reacher and other members of the DEA team believing she had to be dead, Duffy (Sonya Cassidy) never gave up hope. Her faith is rewarded when she learns Teresa is alive but being kept as a “gift” to one of Quinn’s buyers -who Duffy later dishes out a fitting punishment to.

Reacher Season 3 Confirms The Franchise’s 10-Year Cameo Tradition is Officially Dead

The Reacher season 3 finale confirms that a longstanding franchise cameo tradition is over, as a key figure from the series skipped out on appearing.

Duffy Shooting A Villain In The Crotch Was The Reacher Season 3 Finale’s Most Brutal Moment

Duffy must be a great shot

Despite her survival appearing unlikely, it’s revealed that Quinn kept Teresa alive because she’s an attractive redhead. He thus kept her locked away and drugged up until he closed the deal with his Yemeni gun buyers, led by Anousha Alamian’s Nasser. Quinn later leads Nasser to her room, but asNasser starts to get comfortable with Teresa when they’re alone, Duffy emerges and points a gun at his crotch. Nasser smugly states she won’t shoot as the noise would draw his men to the room.

Duffy is so revolted by his planned assault on Teresa that she needed to make Nasser’s demise extra unpleasant.

Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) strangling Paulie (Olivier Richters) in Reacher Season 3 Ep 8

His smugness is misplaced, as onceReacher and his Persuader shotgungo to work elsewhere, Duffy makes good on her threat and shoots Nasser in the crotch. He gets to writhe in agony for a moment as Duffy dispatches his bodyguard before she finishes Nasser with another shot. Like Reacher, Duffy has been willing to bend the rules throughout the investigation - including helping Reacher kill Quinn’s men and hide the bodies. With Nasser, Duffy is so revolted by his planned assault on Teresa that she needed to make his demise extra unpleasant.

The best action sequence of Reacher season 3 lacks the coldness of Nasser’s death

A common complaint about previous seasons ofReacher is that none of his enemies felt like credible physical threats. The latest series set out to fix that with Paulie, who towers over Reacher in both height and muscles. Their eventual clash had been hyped from the beginning, and it didn’t disappoint. These two human kaijus beat the living snot out of each other, and put rakes and other implements to good use. There’s something delightfully over the top about their clash - butthe Reacher and Paulie bout lacks the icy brutality of Duffy killing Nasser.

The Reacher/Paulie fight is cartoonish by design, but there is a harsh intimacy to Nasser’s execution. Duffy could have just shot the arms dealer and been done with it, but she needed him to suffer first. In contrast, Reacher could have protracted Quinn’s death slightly, either by beating him up or shooting him in a limb; instead, Quinn is granted a quick death via shotgun blast. Duffy felt Nasser had earned a nastier end, and boy, did he ever receive it.

Reacher - Season 3

Based on Lee Child’s novel ‘Persuader,’ Season 3 finds Reacher tangled up in a DEA investigation of an import business owned by Zachary Beck. As is often the case, Reacher has a personal stake in the investigation, when he realizes someone he investigated years ago for a crime during his time in the Army has resurfaced in connection to Beck’s operation. To unravel what’s happening in Beck’s business, the DEA collaborates with Reacher and attempts to send him in undercover to help rescue another undercover DEA informant and put a stop to Beck’s business practices.
