One Piece’s Hiatus Will Only Benefit the Anime in the Long Run
The Anime Was Rapidly Catching Up With Oda’s Manga
While fans were undoubtedly disappointed whenOne Piecewent on Hiatus in October, it was undoubtedly to the long-running anime’s benefit. The anime was quickly approaching the manga at the time of its hiatus, and given thatOda had to take his own hiatus fromOne Piece’smanga in November, giving the anime more time to breathe before brushing up against the manga was a wise decision.
WhileOne Piece’sfillerdoesn’t carry nearly the same stigma as infamously filler-heavy series likeOne PieceandBleach, it still usually amounts to lighter episodes that, by design, can’t impact the larger plot. Filler can be good, asOne Piece’sspecialFan Letterepisode showed, but it is stillno substitute for the dense plotting and thrilling action that comes with adapting canon chapters of the series.

One Piece: The Ultimate Guide to All of Roronoa Zoro’s Swords
Roronoa Zoro has used many notable weapons and swords over the course of One Piece so far and this is everything fans know about each sword so far.
One Pieceis currently in the middle of a sort of renaissance, with the live-action series and WIT’s upcoming remake bringing all eyes on Eiichiro Oda’s beloved pirate series. By choosing to forgo more filler, theOne Pieceanime is keeping its quality high at a time when the series has never been bigger. Given that newer fans of anime are almost certainly more familiar with the seasonal releases of anime likeDemon SlayerandJujutsu Kaisenit’s easy to see why the staff at Toei Animation would want to slowOne Piecedown a bit while the manga released more chapters.
Regardless of the reason whyOne Piecewent on hiatus though, fans across the globe now have a date to put on their calendars for its return. The Egghead Island arc has been a serious highlight of the series and a nice change of pace after the anime spent so long in Wano. Now all fans can do is wait forOne Pieceto return on April 6th and continue bringing the Straw Hat Pirates' journeys to life.
