Despite confirmation by Nintendo that the successor to theNintendo Switchwill be revealed within the fiscal year, official updates on the upcoming console have been scarce. While a few concrete facts have been revealed about the Switch’s successor, like that the console will include some form of backwards compatibility with Switch games, windows for its release have remained vague. According to a prominent Nintendo leaker, however, an insider may have revealed a general timeline for the console’s reveal and eventual release.

According to@CentroLeaks on X, a Chinese source has revealed on Weibo thatNintendo’s next console will be officially revealed in January 2025, and released only two months later in March. According to Centro Leaks, the Chinese source on Weibo is reliable, having apparently leaked “pretty much everything regarding the last Nintendo Direct”. As has been pointed out by user@dyophram12069in response to Centro Leaks, however, this information was apparently first posted on Famiboards- originally in a now-edited post from userninspider, and again from userNinPagos.

Leaks Point Towards A January Reveal And March Release For The Switch 2 In 2025

Recent Switch 2 Leaks Could Be Welcome News For Fans - If They Can Be Trusted

Of course, any leaks that haven’t been officially confirmed should be taken with a grain of salt, as even seemingly reliable information can often turn out to be inaccurate. In the lead-up to the reveal of more officialinformation about the Switch 2, leaks regarding the console have been numerous, and many of them have yet to be officially verified. In the case of the reveal and release window leak, especially, there are a few details that could cause some doubt regarding their reliability.

While Centro Leaks vouches for the reliability of the Weibo source, for example, the apparently original posts on Famiboards come from users that seem to have no proven track record or verification, which puts the accuracy of the leak in question. While it’s possible that the two sources on Famiboards and the source on Weibo received and posted their information independently of each other, the staggered dates of each post have raised suspicions that each leak after the first is just copying the same information.

A March Release Might Be What The Switch 2 Needs

A Two-Month Period Between Reveal And Release Would Be Unprecedented

As for the leak itself, while a January reveal would fit within the fiscal year window previously announced by Nintendo, the full release of the console only two months later would be unprecedented- for reference, the Switch itself took five months from its initial announcement to release, and Nintendo’s previous consoles have followed similar timeframes. While releasing a console so soon after its announcement certainly wouldn’t be impossible, especially considering that the console has already been confirmed, it would be an uncommon move.

Pokémon Legends Z - A Release Window, Switch 2 Codename & More Reportedly Revealed In Devastating Leak

A huge Pokémon leak seemingly reveals some major information about the franchise’s future releases and details on the Nintendo Switch 2.

As the original Switch quickly approaches the end of its lifespan, however, with outdated hardware and a dwindling release schedule, there’s good reason for Nintendo to want its next console out the doorsooner rather than later. While a two-month period between reveal and release would typically be unexpected, it might be the kind of move that theNintendo Switch’s successor needs for 2025 to be a successful year.
