Vampire King Dick Grayson Cut Off Wally West’s Legs (But Wait, There’s More)
“…I Was Too Dangerous to Let Live…Too Useful to Kill.”–Wally West inDC vs. Vampires: World War V#5
Upon opening a shipping container in the Vampire Queen’s facility, Green Arrow, Black Canary, and the other heroes are met with a scene straight out of a horror movie—Wally West, his legs severed at the knees, hooked up to various wires and tubes as he’s forced to use the superspeed of his arms to generate power. After recovering from their shock, Oliver and Dinah spring into action, taking down the vampire guards armed with taser batons, which they had been using to force Wally into motion. With the vampires defeated, Dinah and Oliver carefully remove the tubes and wires from Wally’s body, gently lowering him to the ground.
Reeling from the horror of what they’ve just witnessed, Oliver and Dinah ask Wally to explain what happened, leading him to reveal the vampire’s were using him to generate power. Oliver’s next question is to ask the Flash what happened to his legs, and Wally’s answer is nothing short of chilling:“They took them. Nightwing said I was… too dangerous to let live… too useful to kill.”This revelation brings two stomach-dropping truths to light: first, Nightwing, Wally’s canonically best friend, is responsible for this horrifying fate, and second, since Dick has been dead for some time now, it means that Wally has been suffering this torment for an unimaginable length of time.

Wally West’s Fate inDC vs. VampiresProves That Earth-63’s Barry Allen Got of Easy
Barry Allen and Wally West Were Both Betrayed By Their Best Friend
Wally West’s fate inDC vs. Vampiresreveals that, in this alternate universe, Barry Allen got off easy, despite what once seemed like a tragic end. Fans who have followedDC vs. Vampiresfrom the beginning will recall thatvampire Hal Jordan killed his best friend Barry, after Vampire King Dick Grayson claimed it was the only option (Barry’s speed and accelerated metabolism would have turned him into a vampire with an uncontrollable hunger, making him too dangerous). At the time, Hal’s act seemed like the ultimate betrayal, but Dick’s horrifying treatment of Wally shows that, in comparison, Barry’s fate may have been merciful.
The idea that Barry got off easy by dying quickly at Hal’s hands, with a relatively painless death whenHal snaps his neck inDC vs. Vampires#2(2021), is further supported by Wally’s reaction to being saved. Despite being reunited with his friends and them promising to get him to freedom,Wally begs them to kill him.In response to their reassurances, he says,“No… Just make it stop… Just end it. Kill me.”Green Arrow and Black Canary immediately refuse, but it remains clear that in this alternate universe, death may be one of the kindest fates a Flash can receive.

The Flash
The Flash is the superhero name given to the DC Comics character who utilizes unparalleled speed tied to a dimensional power known as the “speed force” to overwhelm their opposition. Premiering in 1939, the original Flash arrived as Jay Garrick. Still, it would be superseded by Barry Allen in popularity and featured status, but the Flash is one character that has met many of their alternate selves. The character is typically seen as a part of the Justice League in nearly all incarnations.
Nightwing
Nightwing is the superhero moniker taken up by Dick Grayson, upon his aging out of the Robin role and becoming a superhero of his own. Inspired by the original Kryptonian hero of the same name, Grayson has risen to comic book immortality with the identity, earning respect as one of the greatest leaders in the DC Universe.
