Initially, the Sharingan was available on demand to Hagoromo and Indra. Indra was an intensely emotional individual, particularly when it came to anger and ambition, who often clashed with both his father and Asura, his brother. Indra passed down both the Sharingan and his emotional nature to his descendants. However, over the centuries, as the connection to Kaguya weakened, Indra’s descendants lost the ability to activate the Sharingan automatically. Instead, the ability evolved into the manifest “under the right conditions” that becamea hallmark of the Uchiha Clan.
Conversely, Indra’s emotional nature persisted in his descendants with little alteration, perhaps even intensifying as the clan endured generations of conflict. Ultimately, this emotional volatility became the catalyst for the Uchiha to unlock their latent Sharingan abilities.
