Endeavor’s Determination Burns Brighter Than Ever in Episode 154
The Anime Changed His Small Flames for a Pair of Shining Wings
In chapter 376 of theMy Hero Academiamanga, Dabi is teleported to the battlefield where Endeavor fought against All For One thanks to Kurogiri’s Quirk. Enji, knowing that his son would not rest until one of them was defeated or dead, prepared to fight by igniting his flames. This action formed a small fire around his back and shoulder. Episode 154 of the anime adaptation gave life to this event and madea change that made Endeavor look more intimidating. Instead of simply depicting fire spreading on Enji’s shoulders, they animated a pair of gigantic fire wings.
Unlike in the manga, in which the flames remained close to Enji’s body at all times, the wings given to this fierce hero spread far beyond him. Not only did this change make Endeavor look significantly more powerful, but it also served as a reminder ofhis determination to make up for his past mistakes. Dabi, despite being a violent criminal, is still Enji’s traumatized child, who lost it all when his father abandoned him in favor of Shoto. Endeavor’s wings likely represent his ardent desire to help his son, no matter what happens to him.
The Wings on Enji’s Back Gave a New Meaning to His Words
His Promise To Dabi Became Even More Emotional
Right after Endeavor’s wings manifest themselves in episode 154, he promises to watch over Dabi and keep his son safe. Enji does not want to harm his children any more than he already has. The wings that sprouted on his back give his promise a much deeper and emotional meaning. Endeavor is ready to let his abusive traits go andbecome the father he should have been all along. The anime found a way to make Endeavor’s words considerably more significant.
While still not an exemplary fathernor someone who has earned the right to be redeemed, Endeavor’s actions prove he still cares about his family. TheMy Hero Academiaanime made his intentions to become a better parental figure by changing a small detail in episode 148. This alteration also served to depictEndeavoras a more imposing and powerful hero, elevating the already iconic moment from the manga.
