My Hero Academia’s manga may have ended in August, but the series has just received its first post-series expansion with the release of a new promotional one-shot by series creator Kohei Horikoshi. The new one-shot is designed to lead into the upcoming movie,My Hero Academia: You’re Next, which is set to be released later this week.
The new one-shot focuses on Class 1-A getting their hands on Deku’s notebook and reading all the notes he’s made about them over the course of the series. It’s set early in season 7, as Deku is shown wearing his Dark Hero costume while still spending time with his classmates in Class 1-A. Some, of course, are more enthusiastic about Deku’s notes than others. The chapter is only 7 pages long, and serves primarily to set up the characters' status before the start of the movie. The one-shot is available onViz’s Shonen Jump app.

My Hero Academia’s New One-Shot Teases All Might’s Reaction
All Might is Shown at the One-Shot’s End
The one-shot chapter ends with a little monologue from All Might, thinking about how the era of the Symbol of Peace is over, and how it’s his students turn. All Might is shown with his suitcase he was frequently seen with in season 7, the contents of which are set to be revealed in the season 7 finale this coming Saturday. It’s unknown if the briefcase will play a role in the film, but it seems unlikely given what it represents in the overall story of season 7. Instead, the focus seems to be on All Might himself, and how he will react to this impostor using his appearance.
The final pages of the manga tease the identity of several new characters for the movie, including Dark Might, Giulio Gandini, and Anna Scervino, although their appearance amounts to a mere cameo. Dark Might can be easily distinguished from All Might due to his use of the musclebound form, which All Might no longer has access to following his battle with All for One. It seems to emphasize that one of the themes of the movie will be facing up to someone with the abilities of All Might, who most of Class 1-A has an almost worshipful reverence towards.
It’s already been seen in training encounters where Deku and Bakugo had to go up against All Might that their respect for him can become a weakness when up against the man directly, and while they’ve grown quite a bit since then, that respect hasn’t gone anywhere. Deku’s biggest challenge in the film may well be overcoming his own fear and respect for his mentor’s power, and realizing that just because this man has All Might’s face and powers doesn’t mean he’s unbeatable.Fighting All Might is one of Deku’s last big mental blocks, so it makes a lot of sense for this idea to be tackled in theMy Hero Academia: You’re Nextfilm.
My Hero Academia: You’re Nextpremieres in theaters on July 28, 2025.
