Between playing through the fresh story offered byMonster Hunter Wilds, there are plenty of ways to unwind, from collecting materials to crafting new gear, but there’s one more habit worth picking up in the long run. While fishing isn’t the most exciting gameplay aspect thatMonster Hunter Wildsoffers, fish have some worthwhile benefits that can be especially handy in the early game ofWilds. From collecting valuable cooking ingredients to earning a significant amount of currency early on, progressing through the fishing quests will leave you better prepared for the future.

Although most of the side-quests inWildsinvolve fairly self-explanatory monster slaying, I found fishing somewhat poorly explained with contradicting descriptions in-game. While the first few fishing quests can make it seem deceptively easy at first, hunting down theGravid Bowfinfor Kanya ended up taking a lot more time than I thought it would. Thankfully, there areplenty of tips for beginnersto make fishing for the rare creature a much more reliable and enjoyable experience, with the Gravid Bowfin offering more than a simple quest reward.

Emerald Jitterbait in Monster Hunter Wilds

All Gravid Bowfin Locations

The Windward Plains And The Scarlet Forest Have The Best Spots

Despite the most recommended area to find the Gravid Bowfin being the oasis in Area 13 of the Windward Plains, the cave behind the hidden waterfall in Area 12 of the Scarlet Forest provides a drastically more consistent fishing experience. While the biggest advantage of Area 13 is that it offers a pop-up camp right next to it, which allows quick resets if the fish don’t spawn and has a wide supply of nearbyhoney inMH Wilds, my camp and I were frequently attacked by roaming Balahara and Chatacabra.

If you plan on fishing in Area 13 of the Windward plains, verify to bring plenty of dung pods to detract approaching monsters before they see your camp, as they are ineffective after they spot the tent.

However, these aren’t the only locations where the Gravid Bowfin can be caught, as the fish can be found in practically any fishing spot in the game as long as the time of day is dusk or dawn and the weather is set to plenty.Another area I wouldn’t recommend is the large lake in the Scarlet Forest in Area 17, as it’s by far the hardest to see smaller fish and tends to be populated by much larger creatures, especially when compared to a small and clear cave-like the one in Area 8 of the Ruins of Wyveria.

How To Get Emerald Jitterbait

A Specialized Lure To Make Fishing For Gravid Bowfin Much Easier

Now that you know where to catch a Gravid Bowfin, the next most important step is ensuring you have the appropriate lure to reel the fish in. Thankfully, suppose you’re catching this fish for Kanya. In that case, you’ll already have the Emerald Jitterbait from her previous quest reward, which makes fishing for valuable aquatic creatures like the Gravid Bowfin drastically easier.

Each Goldenfish offers a Golden Scale that can be sold for 1000 pennies each, making it a worthwhile stop in the early game if you’re in the area and have your capture net handy.

If you don’t have the bait and want to make fishing for rare aquatic life easier in the future, you’ll want to talk to Kanya in the Scarlet Forest Base Camp to initiate her questline. After catching any fish for Kanya in a nearby pond, she’ll send you out with the exact lure you’ll need to find a highly valuable Goldenfish. These fish themselves can occasionally be found in the same pond or much more frequently in the previously mentioned Area 12 behind the waterfall.

How To Catch Gravid Bowfin

Combining Luck And Skill For Much Faster Fishing

With all the preparations aside, it finally comes down to catching the Gravid Bowfin for yourself, starting with knowing how to identify the fish in the first place. While it can be harder to notice from far distances, the Gravid Bowfin has a distinct red hue and thick head poking out of its sharp scales, which are much easier to see in darker and top-down fishing spots.

To make catching specific quest-related fish easier, I recommend catching other fish in the area with the capture net so they don’t steal your lure, as it can prevent you from unintentionally catching handfuls of unwanted fish.

Catching a Gravid Boywfin is much like any other fish, which doesn’t involve patiently waiting, asyou’ll need to slowly or quickly reel in your rod by rotating the left analog stick while your lure is in front of the fish itself before it latches on. After grabbing the attention of the Gravid Boywfin, you’ll need to wait until it’s fully hooked onto the lure and thrashing in the water, as pulling too early will result in a lost catch, but if completed successfully, you’ll have a rare fish to submit to Kanya or keep for yourself.

If you’re just looking to catch additional Gravid Bowfins or other fish for cooking materials or money, you’re better off using the capture net instead. While this method doesn’t count towards Kanya’s fishing quests, the net is a drastically more efficient option than fishing that can catch multiple at once in a fraction of the time, so long as they aren’t too far away. WhileMonster Hunter Wildsbroke the recent traditionof incredibly well-animated paleo cooking, cooking rewards like the Elemental Resist +5 and Swimmer Meal provided by the Gravid Bowfin are somewhat of a consolation prize, at least.
