Status effects can be a major nuisance inMarvel Rivals. While most deal little to no damage, they leave your character uncontrollable and open to follow-up attacks. It is important to know what your enemy is capable of and how to avoid or counteract such abilities. In mirror matches, it can be extremely handy to use your own status effects first to stop the enemy in their tracks. However, it can also be important to not needlessly use a negative effect and save it for a big push or defense.

One important aspect is to also assess theteam composition of the enemyand your allies inMarvel Rivals.A negative status effect isn’t as much of an issue if no one can properly utilize it. In most cases, these effects are used by Strategists to escape or Vanguards to approach. If there aren’t enough Duelists to add further damage, you might be totally fine after they end. Additionally, a friendly Strategist can help recover any lost hitpoints.

All Enemy Abilities With Negative Status Effects

Know What To Expect From Foes

There are a multitude of status effects inMarvel Rivals. Some are named directly on screen, whileothers are mentioned only in the Abilities subsection of the Hero tab. Effects themselves can have a different name than the associated character ability, making it a tad confusing with interchanging lingo. Your allies might say “Stunned”, “Webbed”, or “Snared” but they mean the same thing.

How To Avoid Or Escape Negative Status Effects

Preemptively Stop Status Effects

While the enemy is likely to use status effects, there are ways to prevent their effects or get rid of them faster. Nearly all effects can be stopped by a Vanguard’s shield. This includes moves like Dr. Strange’s Shield of the Seraphim, Hulk’s Indestructible Guard, andMagneto’s Metallic Curtain.

Marvel Rivals Characters You Should Be Using To Steal Objectives

Winning objectives is more important than kills in Marvel Rivals. Several abilities will let you get right to the goal without even fighting.

Negative status effects that hit a wide area, like Namor’s Horn of Proteus, tend to have a large telegraphed marker inMarvel Rivals. Many enemies also havespecific callouts compared to allieswho use the same move. Instead of just moving away, use dash and dodge abilities. This can include Psylocke’s Psi-Blade Dash, Iron Fist’s K’un Lun Kick, and Star-Lord’s Stellar Shift. Cloak and Dagger’s Eternal Bond canfull-on remove the status effects the duo is inflicted with. Not everyone is blessed to have these skills, and less mobile heroes like Storm have few options.

But, the overall best method inMarvel Rivalsis to prevent negative status effects in the first place. Interrupt the enemy mid-ability or simply deal enough damage quickly. If they can’t properly regroup and mobilize, one-off abilities won’t be much of a threat.
