Why The DCU Needs To Give Batman A Less Grounded Batsuit
Batman Has Spent Too Long As A Gritty And Realistic Comic Book Character In Live-Action
Ever since Adam West hung up the Bat-cape,most live-action Batman actorshave worn heavily-armored Batsuits. Only Ben Affleck’s Batman has worn a different kind of suit inBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where his flexible and lightweight Batsuit allowed him to fight with more agility. Despite his canonical martial arts expertise, most live-action Batmen haven’t been able to fight the same way the Dark Knight does in the comics, partly because their armored Batsuits are too rigid.
A less armored Batsuit makes sense for the DCU’s Dark Knight. After all,The Brave and the Boldtakes place in James Gunn’s more fantastical DCU— where extravagant characters like the Creature Commandos exist. Just like Marvel’s Spider-Man and the Arrowverse’s Green Arrow, the idea that the DCU’s Batman is vulnerable to stab wounds or gunshots is less relevant than it is in more grounded adaptations such asChristopher Nolan’sThe Dark Knighttrilogyand Matt Reeves’The Batmancontinuity.

Every Live-Action Batsuit, Ranked
The iconic Batsuit has been in plenty of movie adaptations over the years. Here are all the live-action Batman suits ranked from worst to best.
Robert Pattinson’s Batman is already taking care of the Dark Knight’s realistic elements in Matt Reeves’The Batmanuniverse. The DCU can take advantage of the fact that Pattinson’s Batman and the DCU’s Batman will star in their own moviessimultaneously in order to explore the character’s less grounded traits. A lightweight, cloth-like, and perhaps more colorful Batsuit would be a breath of fresh air for DC inThe Brave and the Bold’s Batman and his subsequent appearances.
