New images have been released forM3GAN 2.0. The film is a follow-up to 2023’sM3GAN, which took theaters by storm when it was released. The first film follows the story of an engineer named Gemma who suddenly becomes the guardian of her niece, Cady, after her parents die in a car accident. She creates a robotic AI invention, M3GAN, to be a companion for Cady, but things do not go according to plan. ThesequelM3GAN 2.0is in development, but its full plot has not been revealed.
Now,Entertainment Weeklyhas released the first images forM3GAN 2.0. The first image shows a look at the titular robot, M3GAN, with her new appearance. While her face is still mostly the same, she is wearing a blue coat in place of her classic look from the first movie. The second image gives a glimpse at where the movie’s human heroine, Cady, is at for the sequel film. Cady uses a magnifying glass and goggles as she connects some wires to what could be another robot. Check out the images below:

Cady Has Grown Up Significantly From The First Film
While there were no more plot details concretely revealed forM3GAN 2.0with this update, the images themselves are telling as to how Cady’s character will function in this follow-up movie. Like the actor herself, Cady has been aged up a bit from the first movie. As such, she will have more agency than she did in her more youthfulM3GANdays. With this growth seems to be a honing of Cady’s own robotics skills, following in Gemma’s footsteps. It will be interesting to see how this development affects her relationship with Gemma, and her ability to combat M3GAN.

M3GAN was one of the most popular horror movies of the past few years, and a 2024 sci-fi film about an evil AI shares a lot of similarities with it.
Despite seemingly dying in the first movie, M3GAN is very much back in action for this next installment. According to director Gerard Johnstone, he and his team thought that they “couldn’t leave [their] girl out of it.” Johnstone went on to explain that his vision was to be able to include “10 different looks for M3GAN,” so that, in typical doll fashion, they would be “able to play dress-up”. The new outfit for the doll shows one way in which the film is varying M3GAN’s look. Check out Johnstone’s full quote below:

M3GAN2.0’s vision for its leading robot is fascinating, as it will give the movie more liberty when it comes to her visual expression. There is still a lot of enticing mystery surrounding the plot of the sequel, however. For example, it has not been revealed how exactly M3GAN returns after seemingly being destroyed duringM3GAN’s ending. Because Cady now has some engineering skills, it will be fascinating to see what role she can play in defeating the robot once again after she rises to power.
