Marvel Comics is host to many gods. In Marvel, nearlyevery real-world mythological deity has an in-comic equivalent. However, while most readers should already know the Asgardian God of Thunder, Thor is far fromthe only Thunder Godaround. The All-Father’s family recently expanded with the addition of Zeus and Utgard-Thor. However, the additional four gods that Storm will soon face are all relatively fresh faces in Marvel’s overwhelmingly large pantheon.

Marvel Secures a New Ultimate Weapon to Use Against Thor: His Son

Thor’s one of the most powerful heroes in Marvel Comics, but that doesn’t mean he’s invulnerable, and his son has actually become his greatest threat.

Alongside the All-Father,Storm will soon face the godsChaac, Shango, Susanoo, and Mamaragan. Despite each having small appearances in previous Marvel comics, the new gods are receiving a full face-lift thanks toStormseries artist Luciano Vecchio. Vecchio remarks that, while he took the time to ensure each character reflected the real-world iconography and culture associated with the gods, the goal was to make sure that“these are versions of the Thunder Gods that can only exist in the Marvel Universe.”Looking at Vecchio’s impressive designs, it’s easy to seethe blend of Storm and Thor’s individual series’ esthetics.

Marvel’s Thunder Gods Are Here to Test Storm

Becoming a God Comes With Overwhelming Responsibility

“For the past five decades of publication, Storm has been an X-Man, Wakandan, Fantastic Four member, Avenger, and so much more. As she steps into this new phase of her life, her role morphs into becoming one with the Marvel Universe as she faces soul-crushing, cosmic labors to protect all we hold dear.” - Murewa Ayodele

Storm is continuing to evolve past any preconceived limits the character has left. Her various accomplishments across a fifty-year-long comic career have elevated her to legendary status, but now she’s aiming for something bigger. Storm has found herself on a journey to become one with the Cosmos, elevating herself to true godhood. But the gods can be fickle beings, prone to testing mortals who wish to ascend past their limits. If Storm continues her path toward godhood, she should expect the heavenly trials that these five gods willdemand from the X-Man.

As Jean Grey can currently attest, the weight that the gods wear is considerably heavier.

To become a god is no easy task, to live up to being a god is even harder. Her metamorphosis into the “Eternal Storm” will require adifferent level of responsibility than Storm has had before. Most Marvel gods, likethe Avengers or X-Men, serve to protect their followers from threats greater than themselves. However, as Jean Grey can currently attest, the weight that the gods wear is considerably heavier. If Storm is to continue her evolution into godhood,Thorand the other Gods of Thunder will have to test the godling mutant to deem her worthy of joining their ranks.
