Kevin Feige is known for his ability to plan and lay out entire cinematic universes, and after hearing his comments about Iron Man’s ending inAvengers: Endgame, it’s clear he’s a fan of the stories. Iron Man was the center of the MCU, and throughout the Infinity Saga, his story unfolded in a spectacular way. From the 2008 origin story,Iron Man, to the moment he sacrificed himself inEndgame, Tony Stark had an epic journey that could only be told in this unique way.
However, Iron Man was not the first comic book movie star to get this treatment. Thanks to Feige’s lengthy career and relationship with Marvel and the film and TV departments, more than a decade prior to Iron Man’s debut, he had his finger on the pulse of everything Marvel related. Before the MCU was born,Feige worked on another character whose journey through his film’s mimicked Iron Man’sand, according to Feige himself, this was no coincidence.

Kevin Feige Said Iron Man’s MCU Ending Was Inspired By Logan
Iron Man’s Death Needed To Feel Just As Epic
Looking down Keavin Feige’s list of credits as an Executive Producer, it’s evident that the man’s name is intrinsically tied to everything that Marvel has made sinceIron Man. However, Feige was actually listed as either an associate producer, co-producer, or executive producer on pretty much every Marvel project between 2000 and 2008, starting withX-Men. DespiteX-Men: The Last Standbeing his last credit with the Fox Marvel movies before the company was bought out by Disney,Feige had a close connection with Hugh Jackman, the actor who played Wolverine, and he watched his career closely.
I had always been very vocal with Hugh that he had one of the best endings of any fictional character ever. And I told him that is so amazing, what he was able to accomplish inLogan, that’s what we were striving for with Robert Downey Jr. inEndgame, to give this incredible iconic fictional character an amazing ending.

In fact,Feige has stated that Jackman’s Wolverine ending inLoganwas something he absolutely loved, and wanted to replicate for Iron Man. While he didn’t necessarily steal plot points, Feige knew he wanted to have an incredible andmeaningful ending for a character who was founded in fiction. And so, exploring Iron Man’s arc from a self-centered billionaire, to the greatest hero the world has ever known, they were able to give him that appropriate send-off, packed with emotion and heart, inEndgame.
Avengers: Endgame Following Logan Explains Why The Movie Was So Good
The Template For A Spectacular Ending Was Baked In To Endgame
In real life, everything has an ending. The end of a job, the end of a day, the end of a life, these things are all a part of reality. However, when it comes to fictional characters and ideas, these intangible elements don’t technically have to end. Over the decades, comics have explored the deaths of superheroslike Superman, Hank Pym, and many others, but later on, there is always some way to bring the original back, start again, and explore the story anew. But the power of an ending is that it makes whatever came before more meaningful.
What do you think about the rumors that Marvel wants Hugh Jackman to continue playing Wolverine?
Rumors have been growing that Marvel Studios wants Hugh Jackman to keep playing Wolverine for as long as possible. While this could be exciting, I was very happy with Deadpool & Wolverine and feel like continuing Jackman’s Wolverine story after Logan was a huge gamble. Ending now would be ending on a huge high note as it certainly paid off, but I’m not so sure about future appearances or even a sequel to Deadpool & Wolverine if the rumors are true…
Yes, Hugh Jackman’s age began to mean the story had to change and adapt, and yes, eventually, someone else is likely to be cast in the role, but the idea to give his character a real ending, where he dies, and there is no way back, made his performance that much more poignant. In the same way,Avengers: Endgameoffered adecisive ending to belovedheroes like Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and Natasha Romanoff. And while the mantles, tools, and costumes may be passed down, those versions of the heroes are gone, on their terms, with and for their best friends.

Will The MCU Ever Be Able To Top Avengers: Endgame?
Avengers: Endgame Is A Tough Act To Beat
In terms of an epic crossover film, where the stakes are high and heroes meet their end,Deadpool & Wolverineoffered a slight insight to how this can go. While the film appears to be a direct contradiction to that idea of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine dying, and in a way, it is a contradiction, there are ways to navigate and honor the past while looking towards the future.Deadpool & Wolverineacknowledged thehero everyone knows and loves was dead, and then moved the story forward. The character played by Jackman is similar, but it’s not the same hero. Instead, it’s a flawed hero looking for redemption.
But beyond that, is Marvel brave enough to end stories and heroes in the name of progress? Characters who have become familiar, and the only anchors to the original Infinity Saga, still reside in the MCU, but this could all change.Marvel is racing towards theend of the Multiverse Saga, and while there have already been some heroes lost along the way, there is a lot more story to tell, and an awful lot to unpack before the end of the Multiverse Saga. But if Marvel is ready to put in the work onAvengers: Secret Wars, there is every chance that this film could live up to the legacy ofEndgame.

Avengers: Secret Wars Needs To Learn From Endgame And Logan
Avengers: Secret Wars Is The MCU’s Best Shot For Another Huge Hit
A growing trend even for fans of the superhero genre has been superhero fatigue. This isn’t to say there aren’t still great superhero movies coming out, and the genre has earned its place as a mainstay just like horror or action flicks, but the approach is due for a change. The Multiverse has gotten convoluted, and it could be time to go back to basics. The introduction of more street level heroes, and dividing the space sagas from the Earth sagas are all good steps forward, but thereneeds to be a definitive ending.
Did Marvel Just Confirm Two More Members Of The MCU’s Young Avengers?
Marvel may have just confirmed two more of the MCU’s Young Avengers just one year after confirming the first three members in The Marvels.
Avengers: Secret Warsis set to be a huge crossover, multiversal movie. However, that level of storytelling can only go on for so long. To make the Multiverse Saga really count, and the Multiverse Saga as it’s come to be, there needs to be an ending, just likeAvengers: Endgame, and just likeLogan. The Multiverse narrative needs to end. WithWhat If…?wrapping up, andSecret Warsset to potentially change the lineup in the universe, they are in the perfect position to close the book on the Multiverse, and move forward with one clearly defined, single universe of stories.
