AFallout 4player has shared their disturbingly relatable favorite pastime when revisiting old saves.Fallout 4’s open-world format offers near-total player freedom, with plenty of options to approach the game however you want. Sure,it may not have the story depth ofNew Vegasor the karma system ofFallout 3, but it does excel in a few categories. One of those is free exploration. Another is gunplay.
Reddit userdonqonhad those strengths at the front of their mind when they posted a thread entitled, “Anyone else get bored and just load into a save where the game is finished and just kill everyone in the Commonwealth?” Complete with gory screenshots, they argued that it can be fun to ignore all the finer points ofFallout 4’s setting and roleplaying elements, instead going on an all-out rampage across the map.

Many Players Can Relate To A Good Old-Fashioned Fallout Massacre
But Others Call It “Unsettling,” “Dark”
As it turns out, the original poster wasn’t the only one:many others, likeGatoSander0, admitted to having done the same exact thing. Although this particular player claimed to be “too much of a goody two shoes” to take the violent way out of mostFallout 4confrontations, sometimes, they’ll make a quicksave and wreak as much havoc as they like. They also pointed out that this method can be a useful way of testing out different mods prior to using them in real combat situations.
Others, likeerthboy, seemed to relate to the catharsis of going on an in-game rampage, butargued that the original poster took it too far. As seen in the screenshots above, donqon posed the bodies of dead NPCs in various disturbing, compromising ways, which is, admittedly, pretty dark.

Still others, likegregiorp, wished fora way to make these onslaughts official, probably envisioning something likeCall of Duty’s round-based Zombiesmode. They drew a comparison toMorrowind, in which there’s no such thing as an essential NPC; everyone and anyone can be killed, even if it breaks the main quest.
So it seems like this is a fairly common pastime for players who have finishedFallout 4, run out of interesting quests to complete, or just want to test out their new weapons without restrictions. It could also be considered a sort of gameplay challenge for some players, or even just a way to relieve stress (although the jury’s still out on whether it’s a psychologically healthy way to do so).
Our Take: Almost Every Fallout Player Has Been There
A Self-Imposed Challenge
The fact of the matter is thatalmost everyFalloutplayer (more likely every RPG player) has done something similar at one point or another. I plan to think of it as a self-imposed challenge: how long can the character I’ve built survive against everyone else in the world?
Fallout 4’s Creepy Mannequins Could Be Hiding A Weird Secret
Fallout 4’s mannequins often show up in unusual places, leading to some fun fan theories about them, with many believing that the dummies are alive.
I’ve done it in all sorts of different games.I’ve tried to stealth kill as manySkyrimorFalloutNPCs as I couldwithout getting caught. I’ve seen how long I could keep up perfect parry timing against waves ofAssassin’s Creedguards. I’ve opened the Iron Flask in the middle of Baldur’s Gate. Sometimes, before I quitStardew Valleyfor the day, I’ll scatter every bomb in my inventory around my farm, just to hear the satisfying cracking noise fruit trees make when they fall down.
Call it an RPG if you want - in many ways it is, but with its base building feature and enormous library of mods,Fallout 4is also secretly a sandbox game. You can do almost anything you can imagine, even something as gruesome as donqon’s total NPC massacre. Just don’t expect your fellowFallout 4players to respond kindly if you post such graphic screenshots of carefully arranged bodies.

In doing so, they encounter various factions and companions and use an array of skills and abilities to navigate the apocalyptic remnants of society.
