Upon landing onAt Achrann, a sort of parallel universe toAt Attinthat’s ruined by years and years of war,Jod insists that he’s reminded of his own home planet - especially upon tasting the ash. While, of course, many viewers' thoughts went to ashy planets like Mustafar, this could actually be indicative of something even bigger, and even more sinister. Ash could be one of the last memories Jod has of his true homeworld, rather than its environment.
It could have been that whoever caused the destruction then took him and led him into a life of piracy, or something at least similar to that.

We now know that there are, or were, nine total “Jewels of the Old Republic”, all with names similar to At Attin’s - one of which was also, of course, At Achrann. Some of the others were name-dropped inSkeleton Crewepisode 4, including At Aytuu, At Arissia, At Aravin, and At Acoda.Given Jod’s own unique knowledge of the Jewels of the Old Republic, it stands to reason that he could have been from one of these other Jewel planets himself- and that it could be part of the reason why he’s so intent on finding At Attin again.
