As the hero of theStar Warssequel trilogy, it’s exciting to think aboutRey Skywalker’s life before that time, especially now thatThe Mandalorianera is exploring the years between the original and sequel trilogies in more depth. Rey is quite young during the events of the sequel trilogy, but she undergoes a massive amount of both change and growth over the course of those three movies. By the end, her wisdom certainly surpasses her years. The question is when exactly all of this takes place in relativity to the events ofThe Mandalorian.

TheStar Warstimelineuses a dating system centered around the Battle of Yavin, when the first Death Star was destroyed inA New Hope. Everything else happens either before that battle (BBY) or after that battle (ABY).The Mandalorianseason 1 starts in 9 ABY, which is just five years afterReturn of the Jedi, whileStar Wars: The Force Awakenskicks off the sequel trilogy in 34 ABY. WithThe MandalorianandThe Force Awakenstaking place 25 years apart from one another, is it possible that Rey was alive during the events ofThe Mandalorian?

Rey Skywalker Is Born Just After The Current Mandalorian Era

Rey is Born in 15 ABY

So far,Rey is not alive during the events ofThe Mandalorian. Rey is born in 15 ABY, making her just nineteen years old inThe Force Awakens. Seeing asThe Mandalorianbegins six years before Rey’s birthdate, the events of theStar WarsTV showand its spin-offs still happen years before Rey’s birth on Hyperkarn. As of the time of writing,The Mandalorianera only stretches to about 12 or 13 ABY, though there is potential for this era to continue its expansion - and perhaps overlap with Rey’s birth.

If This Era Continues To Expand, Rey Will Definitely Be Alive

It Currently Takes Place Between 9 ABY & c.13 ABY

The timeline ofThe Mandalorianera is extremely murky at the moment, with official sourcebooks and the creators themselves constantly contradicting one another, butit’s widely assumed that each season ofThe Mandalorianhas taken place at least one year apart from one another. This would mean thatThe Mandalorianseason 1 takes place in 9 ABY, season 2 in 10 ABY,The Book of Boba Fettin 11 ABY, andThe Mandalorianseason 3 in 12 ABY.Ahsokatakes place at some point after season 3, though it’s uncertain whether that’s also in 12 ABY or in 13 ABY.

What The Mandalorian Timeline Should Actually Look Like (& It Shouldn’t All Happen In 1 Year)

The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 are said to both take place in 9 ABY, but one year is not a long enough time for everything Din and Grogu go through.

Either way, it’s easy to see the pattern ofThe Mandalorianera’s expansion. There is certainly a strong possibility that this era could stretch to 15 ABY, and could cross over with Rey’s birth and her earliest years in the galaxy. Though it’s highly doubtful that a youngRey Skywalkerwill ever actually be seen inThe Mandalorianera, there is plenty of reason to believe that her existence will, in fact, have an eventual crossover with these key events that continue to set up theStar Warssequel trilogy.

Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker in Star Wars the Rise of Skywalker

Rey Skywalker

Daughter of a “failed” Palpatine clone, Rey became part of a mysterious phenomenon known as the Force Dyad - a vergence in the Force that bound her to Kylo Ren. Trained by both Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, Rey fought against the First Order as an ally of the Resistance. She ultimately triumphed against Palpatine himself, channelling the full power of all Jedi.
