Married At First Sightseason 18’s Michelle Tomblin has been difficult to deal with throughout the first stretch of episodes, and Ithink it’s obvious she’s the most selfish cast member of the season.Married At First Sightseason 18has been a breath of fresh air after the difficulties ofMAFSseason 17, but there have been issues with the couples from the earliest moments of the season. Their weddings made it clear that the couples were going to have a tough time moving through the season, but Michelle’s difficulties with herMAFShusband David Trimble have been extreme.

During theMarried At First Sightseason 18 matchmaking special, Michelle and David’s match was explained by theMAFSexperts. While they knew that Michelle could have a tough time with the things she would find out about herMAFShusband, the experts were hopeful that she would be able to look past the initial feelings about David’s life choices. ThoughDavid is less independent in ways Michelle deems important, his living situation having ties to his family isn’t out of the ordinary. Even so, Michelle has been stuck on the fact that herMAFSpartner isn’t what she pictured.

Michelle & David’s MAFS Journey So Far

Things Haven’t Gone Smoothly

ThroughoutMarried At First Sightseason 18, Michelle and David have been having a tough time adapting to their new relationship. Michelle, a fiercely independent person who was hoping to find a genuine match onMAFS,hashad a particularly tough time with the way David lives his life outside of their marriage. David currently lives with his parents and has shared he’s doing so to save money for his future and ultimately buy a home for himself and his partner. While David is also in his living situation to help his parents out, his reasoning isn’t important to Michelle.

TheMAFSexperts asked Michelle about the ideaof being with someone who had less perceived success than she currently does, and while Michelle shared that it was something she may need to reconcile with, she didn’t seem opposed to the idea.Michelle shared that she was open to anyone the experts felt would be a good fitand David was theoretically someone they could see her with long-term. Knowing Michelle was going to struggle a little, theMAFSexperts still chose to put her with David because of their on-paper compatibility, but things have been rough between the pair.

I’ve Noticed Michelle’s Extreme Selfishness

She’s Focused On Herself

AlthoughMichelle works in a careerwhere she gives back to the greater good,I’ve noticed that her nature onMarried At First Sighthas been far more selfishthan expected. Michelle has been having a tough time with David’s living situation and how, in her eyes, that makes him seem like he isn’t an independent person. While David has explained the situation in a way that seems satisfactory to me, Michelle’s behavior makes it seem like he hasn’t spoken to her about it at all. Michelle’s been selfish surrounding the way David’s situation makes her feel, especially to others.

While it appearsDavid’s reasons for his living situationoffer a fairly solid explanation that would lead anyone to understand that he’s doing it for financial reasons, not need-based reasons,Michelle can’t see past how it looks. David living with his parents would cast a bad look on Michelle to her social circle, which makes it a problem for her as she moves forward in her relationship. Michelle ignores the fact that David’s financial situation is positive or that his relationship with his family is genuine. Instead, she’s focused on herself, pushing a negative narrative to make herself feel better.

Why Did Michelle Want To Get Married At First Sight?

She Felt Ready For A Genuine Relationship

AlthoughMichelle’s time onMarried At First Sightseason 18 hasn’t been the best for her reputation, she seemed to want to come on the show for genuine reasons. During an interview with Screen Rant,Michelle shared that she was looking to come to the series in order to find her person. Michelle explained,“everything else in my life was in order and I was just missing my person to share that with,”as she hoped for a genuinely loving companion to spend the rest of her life with. Michelle’s time on the series was something she’d been hopeful for.

While Michelle made it clear that she was looking for something serious, doing her best to move through the interview process carefully and share who she truly was. Michelle’s past relationships may not have been the easiest for her to navigate, as her standards are high and she’s comfortable living independently. While it’s clear that she was looking for someone specific, theMAFSexperts were hopeful thatMichelle would come into the experimentwith some sense of openness and understanding rather than judgment and dissolution. Unfortunately,Michelle’s relationship with David has pushed her to be the worst version of herself.

Was Michelle The Right Pick For The Show?

The MAFS Bride Has Been Struggling

After marrying herMAFSgroom and having a breakdown in the bathroom just moments later, it’s clear that Michelle hasn’t been having a great time on the series. TheMAFSbride has been struggling from the moment she met David, and understanding more about his situation has put her in a position where she doesn’t feel any sort of connection with him.Michelle’s behavior has been tough to watch, but her time on the show has been controversial enough that she could still be considered great casting for the series. Michelle’s time onMarried At First Sighthas been fraught.

Though I think Michelle’s time on the show hasn’t been the most positive for her or the viewers, I don’t necessarily think she was the wrong pick for the series. On paper and in earlierMAFSappearances,Michelle seemed ready to take on the experimentand open herself up. David may simply be a poor fit for Michelle as she moves through the experiment, and even if that doesn’t make sense to us as viewers,I’m trying to give Michelle some grace. I’m not happy with her behavior, but I’m awareMarried At First Sightis harder than it looks.

Married At First Sightairs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST on Lifetime.

Married At First Sight

Cast

Based on the Danish version of the series, Married at First Sight is a reality show/social experiment that gives singles a chance to find a lifelong partnership with one particular caveat: they must agree to marry a stranger arranged the moment they meet. Experts provide counseling and guidance as they help couples navigate their new marriage with their unknown partner and highlight the journey of the newlyweds from wedding to honeymoon to beginning their new lives together. At the end of eight weeks, couples will decide to stay married or divorce.
