The latest set fromPokémon Trading Card Game Pocketintroduces shiny Pokémon to the game, but the community only wants to talk about the new Wigglytuff card, instead. The hit mobile game brings the experience of opening booster packs and collecting cards into the virtual world, and the experience includes regular releases of new sets. The latest set,Shining Revelry, brings shiny variants of certain Pokémon to the title, but the card that’s actually captivated players is just a regular full-art Wigglytuff.

The card itself is unremarkable, boasting 100 HP and a Gentle Slap attack that requires two energy cards of any type to do 50 damage. The Pokémon also has the useful Comforting Song ability, which lets players heal 20 damage at every turn. But while the Wigglytuff card is fairly ordinary, it’s theunique illustration that’s eliciting some pretty strong feelings from players.

Pokémon TCG Pocket’s New Wigglytuff Card Captivates Fans With Its Gaze

There’s Nothing Comforting About This Wigglytuff’s Comforting Song

The newTCGPcard depicts Wigglytuff, Jigglypuff’s evolution, in a 3D-rendered style that leans a bit too hard into realism and landsright in the middle of Uncanny Valley. The Pokémon’s serene smile is nothing more than an indent in the fur, whileits massive clear blue eyes seem to stare directly into your soul.

Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Wonder Pick Rules Make It Harder To Collect All Shining Revelry Cards

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket put some heavy restrictions on Shiny Pokémon, banning them from appearing in Wonder Pick selections.

The Pokémon’s description at the bottom of the card states that “it has a very fine fur,” and this can be clearly seen in the soft fuzz that covers the entire creature, providing a strange contrast to the shiny plastic-doll-like eyes. The entire card is made even more unusual by the ethereal white space that surrounds Wigglytuff in lieu of an actual background, resulting in a somewhat surreal image.

Fans React To Unsettling Wigglytuff Card

“Comforting Song? Nah, Perish Song”

TheShining RavelryWigglytuff card was created by 5ban-Graphics, a prolific card illustrating studio that specializes in 3D renderings of Pokémon for theTCG. The art studio hasprovided over 1600 cards for the card game since the 2011Black & Whiteset, most of which areloved by many fans for their dynamic nature. This Wigglytuff, though, seems to have missed the mark, causing many players to react quite differently.

RedditorSmithyLK, for instance, quips: “Comforting Song? Nah, Perish Song.” The card is drawing comparisons toDetective Pikachuin style by many fans, includingAccomplished_Rope699on Reddit, who states simply, “i hate it i hate it i hate it.”

Redditorbafaeldecided to take things a step further and create a joke deck “themed around forcing the opponent to look at Wigglytuff for as long as possible.” The deck is built to prolong the fight and the comments havesuggestions to make it even more cursed, like to “gently slap your opponent’s Pokemon to 10HP” and then stop attacking, a genius idea provided bynaiets.

In the few days that theShining Revelryset has been available onPokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, the Wigglytuff card has been compared to the 90s Furby and generative AI, and called “blursed” (blessed and cursed) by many. Some people (including, alarmingly, my husband) do actually find the card art to be cute, but they seem to be in the minority. At the very least, the silly card has gotten people talking and building excitement for the game.
