As Daredevil has been rumored to be appearing inAvengers: Doomsday, theMarvel Cinematic Universestar sets the record straight. One of the most highly anticipated films in The Multiverse Saga is getting closer to starting production, asAvengers: Doomsdayis reportedly filmingin March. Given the nature of superhero films, there have been numerous rumors about who will be showing up inAvengers: Doomsday.
In a new interview withEntertainment Weekly, Charlie Cox was asked about a December 2024 rumor that was floating around that Daredevil would be appearing inAvengers: Doomsdaythat emerged after he visited the DFRNT Health and Fitness in West Australia, which led to a social media post that said he was getting ready to reprise the role in the 2026 installment. Cox went into depth about what had happened,while clarifying what he had actually said about his Daredevil role and its future, as he shared the following:
I was there for Christmas with my family. And on the last day, they asked if they could take a picture with me, which we did. I had said to them, ‘I’m getting ready to play Daredevil,’ ‘cause I am! I’m getting ready to play Daredevil in season 2 ofDaredevil: Born Again. Sometimes people who aren’t really in the [entertainment] world, they don’t understand the terminology or whatever, but for some reason they posted that and they put ‘getting ready for his role in the Avengers,’ which is not true.I felt terrible. I had to call my bosses and say, ‘I didn’t say that,’ obviously.Why would I say that? Why would I make something like that up? But I don’t think they made it up. I think they just got confused about what it is. I don’t know.
What Charlie Cox’s Daredevil Comments Mean
To expand upon what Cox had to debunk, when he took a picture with theDFRNTowners, they shared through their social media pages the photo with theDaredevil: Born Againstar adding that"Charlie is currently training for his role in the upcoming Avengers movie.“However, the caption on the Instagram post has since been changed, where it says,“It’s been Awesome having Charlie and his wife, Sam Cox in at DFRNT over the past few weeks! Charlie is currently training for a new role!“The change to the original Instagram was likely triggered due to many taking this as a confirmation that Cox would be part oftheAvengers: Doomsdaycast.
While it was most likely a big misunderstanding on the owners’ part, it’s understandable why Cox had to clarify that this wasn’t true,as many MCU fans ran with Daredevil being inAvengers: Doomsdayas fact. Up to this point, Marvel Studios has been keepingAvengers: Doomsdaystory details and cast updates under wraps, given the magnitude of this film. Once filming forAvengers: Doomsdaystarts, that is when the world will start to learn more about what characters fromthe MCU timelinewill be included in the movie.
Our Take On Charlie Cox’s Daredevil Comments
While Cox was able to clear up this specific instance about the Phase 6 film,it’s key to remember that he never said that he isn’t inAvengers: Doomsdayat all, as he simply clarified that his workout was forDaredevil: Born Againseason 2. It wouldn’t be shocking if Daredevil ends up being inAvengers: Doomsday, and that this is an announcement that is being saved for later. Hopefully, whether it is inAvengers: DoomsdayorAvengers: Secret Wars, Cox’s Daredevil will finally get a chance to meet the other MCU heroes.
