Warning! Spoilers for Absolute Batman #2!The firstBat-Familycharacters whoBatmanoften turns to in times of need are usually Nightwing and Batgirl, but in the Absolute Universe, he’s got himself a brand-new family. Batman always needs a family, and in this universe, without a Dick Grayson or a Barbara Gordon who works with Batman, Bruce has had to turn to his friends from childhood - which might surprise a few fans.
Absolute Batman#2 by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta delves further into the relationship between Bruce Wayne and his friends from childhood. While the Prime Universe Bruce didn’t have many childhood friends,Absolute Batman grew up with many of them, and they’re all familiar characters from the larger Batman mythos.

Needing to get information on the brutal Party Animal gang,Bruce turns to Harvey Dent, Oswald Cobblepot, and Edward Nygma for help. While this group of characters might sound shocking, these Absolute versions are far from the brutal villains they are in the Prime Universe. Bruce grew up with them in Gotham, and they’re the only people Bruce Wayne can rely on now.
Batman’s Worst Villains Are His Best Friends in the New Absolute Universe
Absolute Batman#2 by Scott Snyder, Nick Dragotta, Frank Martin, and Clayton Cowles
In his early career in the main DCU, Batman was often a solo character. Aside from Alfred, he had almost no one he could rely on. Over time, he gathered more allies, such as Jim Gordon and Harvey Dent, and eventually, the entire Bat-Family, including early members Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon. Since then, the Bat-Family has become the biggest asset that Batman relies on in times of need. While the Justice League is great, andBatman clearly trusts Superman, there is no one he trusts more than the family he chose and trained himself.
While Batman is often known for being a loner, he’s never been above asking for help when he needs it.

While having Batman rely on his “villains” for help is a fun twist for the Absolute Universe, it’s actually not that unusual.Prime DC Universe Batman has often resorted to relying on his villains.Even after Harvey Dent became Two-Face, Batman has continually come to him for help in major times of need. He has even let Two-Face watch over Gotham while he was gone from the city. Batman has also relied on the Riddler several times, even working with him closely during the time that Edward was trying to be a hero. As for Cobblepot, well -Batman has been working with the Penguinfor years.
No Matter the Universe, Batman Always Has Allies to Turn to When He Needs Help
Batman Rarely Actually Works Alone
One of the best parts about Batman is his drive to win. No matter what happens, he will find a way to achieve his goals, and while Batman is often known for being a loner, he’s never been above asking for help when he needs it. While his current family in the Absolute Universe has no idea they’re actually helping Batman, it’s unlikely they’d deny him even if they knew the truth. Bruce Wayne grew up with these people and has known them for decades. They’re his best friends and, whether they know it or not, they’re currentlyBatman’sgreatest allies and the strangest new version of theBat-Family.
