NewGladiator IIandWickedmashup art shows gladiators on witch brooms. Though distinctly different films,Gladiator IIandWickedwere often lumped together this year due to their dual release on November 22. In a twist on last year’s Barbenheimer, signifying the joint release ofBarbieandOppenheimer, this release competition was called Glicked.Wickedcame out on top in this battle, opening to $112.5 million.Gladiator IIstill did well, but made less than half of this total upon premiering, bringing in $55 million.
Now, new art from @bosslogicuniquelycombinesWickedandGladiator II. The art creates a mock poster calledThe Wicked Gladiator. Setting-wise, the foreground of the poster takes place in the Colosseum, but the Wizard’s Emerald City palace is still in the backdrop. Two gladiators prepare for a fight, but instead of their typical chariots, they are mounted on brooms. AWickedcharacter, seemingly Elphaba, floats above them in the background.

What This Means For Gladiator II & Wicked
Glicked Has Not Caught On As Much As Barbenheimer
While it does not use the “Glicked” name, this kind of mashup art very much recalls the kind of fan art that was created during the Barbenheimer craze last year. One mashup poster in particular circulated wherein theOppenheimerposter that sees a bomb exploding around Oppenheimer was transformed to look like the same explosion was erupting aroundMargot Robbie’s Barbie. In addition to posters being made, there were copious sets of memes that circulated on the internet leading up to, during, and after the Barbenheimer weekend.
Wicked Ending Explained & How It Sets Up Wicked Part 2
Wicked: Part 1 builds up Elphaba and Glinda’s friendship, leading to a tense ending in The Emerald City that sets the foundation for Wicked: Part 2.
Glicked had not caught off to nearly the same level as Barbenheimer, but some similar trends can be observed. Like in the case ofGladiator IIandWicked, the more family-friendly movie came on top at the box office during opening weekend. For Barbenheimer,Barbieopened to $162 million againstOppenheimer’s $82.4 million. These totals were notably higher than Glicked’s, a stat which is likely attributable to the fact that they were released in the prime blockbuster window of July. Still, these competitive releases have a lot of similarities.

Our Take On This Glicked Art
It Captures The Spirit Of Glicked
As for the art itself, I think this artist provides a creative combination ofGladiator IIandWicked. The color palette stays well withinRidley Scott’s sphere but nonetheless includes ample elements from the individual films as well as combining them. As we get further away from the release ofGladiator IIandWicked, it will be interesting to see if their dual release is still talked about in the way that Barbenheimer has remained relevant in box office conversation.
Wicked
Cast
Wicked adapts the Broadway musical into a two-part film, following the unlikely friendship between Elphaba, born with green skin, and Glinda, a popular aristocrat, in the Land of Oz. As they navigate their contrasting paths, they evolve into Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
Gladiator II
Gladiator 2 is the follow-up to Ridley Scott’s award-winning film Gladiator from 2000. Scott returns to direct the sequel, with Paul Mescal staring as Lucius, alongside Denzel Washington and Joseph Quinn as the villain Emperor Geta. Gladiator 2 had been stuck in development hell for years before a script written by David Scarpa finally moved forward.
