A new quality-of-life update forGenshin Impact5.5 has been officially confirmed by developer HoYoverse, showcasing what is likely the best improvement to Artifacts since the implementation of the crafting system back in Version 5.0.Version 5.5 is still a few months away from arriving, as the action RPG is still in the midst of Version 5.3 and has yet to go through the contents of Version 5.4. While Version 5.4 should have much less to offer compared to the current update, the upcoming patch will still last six weeks and introduce players toYumemizuki Mizuki inGenshin Impact.
The update will take players back to the region of Inazuma for a flagship event and even offer them a new F2P event weapon, despite it not being as good as expected.Furthermore, HoYoverse has already confirmed several activities to have players occupied during Version 5.4, including a battle tower eventthat should take their team comp strategies and character builds to the limit, especially at higher levels. In fact, thetower event inGenshin Impact5.4is extremely promising when it comes to its challenge level. However, HoYoverse is already setting its sights on the following patch, Version 5.5.

Crafted Artifact Sub-Stats In Genshin Impact Will Get Guaranteed Enhancements
This Should Make At Least Two Crafted Sub-Stats Usable
Through an official post onHoYoLAB, HoYoverse announced a series of quality-of-life updates that will arrive in Version 5.4. This includes the previously leaked weapon filter, substantial improvements to the in-game character guides, and even a tweak to the Serenitea Pot. However, what truly stands out is an update that isn’t planned for Version 5.4. but for Version 5.5, which states that the chosen sub-stats on Artifacts that have been crafted will be guaranteed to receive at least two enhancements while the Artifact piece inGenshin Impactis being enhanced up to level 20.
Nintendo Switch 2 Announcement Has Me Hopeful For Genshin Impact On The New Console
The announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 console for 2025 has renewed my hopes of seeing and playing Genshin Impact on a hybrid console.
Effectively, this means that starting in Version 5.5, Artifacts that are crafted with Sanctifying Elixir and that have their sub-stats determined by the player during the moment of crafting will see improvements to those specific sub-stats at least twice.Based on the post’s wording, it seems like the two enhancements will be randomly distributed among the chosen sub-stats in lieu of each of the sub-stats being enhanced twice. Nevertheless, this is already a major improvement to Artifacts and the best update to the system since the addition ofSanctifying Elixir inGenshin Impact.

Confirmed Artifact Update For Genshin Impact 5.5 Will Target One Of The Game’s Worst Issues
Randomized Sub-Stat Enhancements Can Ruin A Seemingly Perfect Piece
This update to the Artifact system in Version 5.5 will address one of the game’s worst issues: randomized sub-stat development. Farming Artifacts is a problem the game has had since its launch. The randomness behind obtaining pieces with the best main stats is extremely punitive.Players can spend days farming and never even see the exact piece they want, much less one with the ideal stat. When they do, it’s a joy, but there is still some distress involved in leveling it because, like the drop itself, the unlocking and enhancement of sub-stats forArtifacts inGenshin Impactis randomized.
Genshin Impact: Best Mavuika Builds (Weapons, Artifacts, Team Comps, Stats)
Finding the best build for Mavuika in Genshin Impact can be tough because of her versatility as both a DPS and sub-DPS. Here’s how to optimize her.
As such, players often see themselves obtaining a much-needed Pyro DMG goblet for their Mavuika, for example, but when leveling that Artifact, it gains and enhances DEF and Energy Recharge sub-stats, both of which are not used by her. This has been a continuous problem that has plagued the game for a while. It’s even more frustrating whenHonkai: Star Rail, another of HoYoverse’s RPGs, has already introduced a solution. The implementation of something akin toVariable Dice inGenshin Impactwould significantly improve the general player experience, as it would offer players a chance to optimize their character builds.

For reference, Variable Dice allows players to randomly reroll the enhancements applied to sub-stats on Relics at maximum level – it doesn’t change the sub-stats per si, but it could remove enhancements applied to the DEF sub-stats and apply them to ATK, for example.
The confirmed guarantee that sub-stats that were specifically chosen during the crafting process will be enhanced at least twice is not a complete solution to the larger problem that envelops the grinding needed to obtain good Artifacts, but it’s an extremely positive update to the game, and it should make the experience of building characters a bit less frustrating than it currently is. The game still has a long way to go to make the farming process less punitive than it should be, but with the investment in quality-of-life updates toGenshin Impact, it’s hopefully only a matter of time.
