What The Cersei Cosplay Means For Game Of Thrones

The Show Was A Massive HBO Hit

Game of Thronesseason 8was infamously divisive and the show is widely considered to have concluded on a bit of a sour note. Still, though, the series was extremely popular, andit remains the most-watched HBO show of all time. The characters are a major reason for this, and Cersei, in particular, became a figure that audiences loved to hate.

Game Of Thrones: The Lannisters, Ranked Least To Most Evil

If House Stark were considered Game Of Thrones' good guys, House Lannister were the villains and have at least two of the show’s evilest characters.

Though Cersei started off as a much more empathetic character, the deaths of those close to her eventually transformed her into one ofGame of Thrones' most ruthless figures.Headey’s performance was a major reason for the character’s success, and the actor, who has also appeared in projects like300(2006),Dredd(2012), andGunpowder Milkeshake(2021), is still most associated with her role as Cersei. The fact that Cersei is still being cosplayed speaks not just to how memorable the character is, but how much of a cultural touchstoneGame of Thronesremains.

Our Take On The Game Of Thrones Cersei Cosplay

The Cosplay Gets More Than The Appearance Right

Though it seems unlikely that Cersei is many people’s favorite character purely because of how evil she becomes and how much death she is responsible for,the Lannister queen remains one of the most memorable characters across all theGame of Thronesseasons. She has a powerful arc across the show’s eight seasons and never feels like a villain caricature – she always remains, if not likable, at least understandable.

The cosplay effectively captures Cersei’s actual appearance, but the intimidation and the anger boiling underneath the surface also comes through, which is a key part of that character.Game of Thronesmay not have ended on the best of terms, but many of the show’s characters continue to stand the test of time as some of fantasy’s best heroes and villains.
