Suits LAhas had a slow start, and I am finally realizing why after hearing Gabriel Macht’s recent comments. TheSuitsspinoffcomes afterSuitsreceived a resurgence in popularity following its introduction to streaming. It was previously a network TV show that aired on prime-time television. The show is highly regarded as one of the best legal dramas, which is why there was so much excitement surrounding the announcement ofSuits LA. However, the spinoff has had a slower start than expected, leading to criticism and lower views.

Suits LAwas never planned to be a continuation ofSuits, so differences between the two shows are to be expected. However,Suits LAhas been missing what madeSuitsso popular in the first place. TheSuits LAcharactersare noticeably different from theirSuitscounterparts and so are the relationships between the characters, which is whySuits LAhas not lived up to the flagship’s standards yet.

Macht Attributes Suits' Popularity To Catchy TikTok Clips

WhileSuitshad a major resurgence on Netflix, Gabriel Macht revealed that Netflix was not the only platform that helped with the show’s growth. Speaking onThe Today Show,Macht said that a lot of the resurgence had to do with trendy clips on Instagram and TikTokthat highlighted the show’s “witty banter.” These clips encouraged viewers to check out the show on their own time. Watch his interview below.

Social media has always been a fantastic way to grow a show’s popularity, as it highlights some of the best scenes without revealing too much, leading to viewers always wanting more.Suitshas not even been the only show to receive a resurgence in popularity after joining Netflix, but it has been one of the most noticeable ones. The small clips on Instagram and TikTok acted as a form of free promotionfor one of the best legal dramas of the twenty-first century, which eventually led to the creation ofSuits LA.

Suits LA Lacks The Fun & Banter That Macht Is Pointing Out

Suits LA Has A Heavier Tone

One of the best things aboutSuitsis the relationships between the characters. Characters like Harvey, Louis, Donna, and Mike did not always get along, but they always had quick and witty banter that overshadowed any potential animosity between each other.Suits LAlacks that aspect. As a result,it has been hard to get intoSuits LAbecause it is not as vibrant asSuits. There is still some banter between the characters, but it is not said in the same playful tone that was present throughoutSuits.

Forget Harvey Specter, Suits LA Just Brought Back What I Was Really Missing From Suits

As excited as I am about Harvey’s return to the Suits universe, Suits LA episode 5 brought back what I was really missing from the original show.

The characters inSuitswere also like family members who did not get along, making their banter almost familial in a way.Suits LAis still in its early stages, but so far, it has not been able to replicate the same atmospherethat madeSuitsso likable. In particular, theSuits LAcharactersact more like professional colleagues. And while that may be expected in a legal drama,Suitswas able to bypass this by highlighting the characters' personal relations and interactions with each other within the offices of Pearson-Hardman.

The last thing that setsSuits LAapart is thatit has a much darker tone thanSuits.Suitshad issues arise with mergers and season villains, but they all happened over the course of several seasons.Suits LAhas jumped right in with Ted and Stuart’s animosity, which has essentially removed the potential for playfulness in the early parts of the show.

Can Suits LA Still Recreate The Original Show’s Signature Wit?

A Major Storyline Needs To Be Resolved First

Suits LAhas the potential to recreateSuits' banter, but it can not do so right away.Suits LAseason 1 has largely revolved around Ted and Stuart’s hostilitytowards one another. Ever since theSuits LApremiere, Stuart has been labeled a villain and has done anything he can to damage Ted’s career by betraying him and cutting him out of a highly anticipated merger. While the storyline is interesting, it is too serious, which preventsSuits LAfrom having a playful tone.

Suits LAairs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.

Suits LAdoes not have to be the same asSuits, but by not havingSuits' same wit and banter, the show is ruining its chances of benefiting fromSuits' resurgence. Fortunately,Suits LAepisode 5included the line “What the hell did you just say to me?” which hints at the possibility thatSuits LAmight finally be starting to imitateSuits' best aspects, which includes its banter. In any case, ifSuits LAwants the chance to matchSuits' popularity, it needs to move on from Ted and Stuart’s problems quickly.
