What This Means For The Friday Night Lights Reboot

This Is Not The First Time A Reboot Has Been Suggested

Though this appears to be a new project, it is not the first time that some form ofFriday Night Lightsreboothas been floated. Previously, it has been thought thatthe original show’s team should do some form of reunion. Just this summer, actor Gilford mentioned that “everyone would totally be down to do [a Friday Night Lights reunion] if it made sense.” Berg has also noted that theFriday Night Lightsteam has floated the idea of some kind of reunion or reboot series over the years, but has had worries about it being too difficult.

Friday Night Lights Ending Explained (In Detail)

Friday Night Lights' ending episode was a poignant farewell to Dillon, Texas, but some stories had ambiguous resolutions in the series finale.

TheFriday Night Lightsreboot now in talks would seem to avoid some of the issues that the original team has feared before. From a story perspective, it would eliminate the issue of having to get the main characters back in the same place again after the original show had been set primarily in high school. Choosing a similar setting with new characters will allowthe reboot series to capture the energy that people lovedaboutFriday Night Lightswhile still being fresh.

Our Take On The Friday Night Lights Reboot

The Show Would Likely Do Well

The originalFriday Night Lightsis benefitted by its ability to appeal to multiple crowds. Those looking for a sports-based TV show will be satisfied by the football they get to witness, while those looking for a character drama can get wrapped up in all the different individual threads about the players. It will be hard to fully capture the spirit of the original, which was nominated for multiple Emmys. If theFriday Night Lightsreboot even comes close to the original, however, it could be very successful on whatever platform wins the war.
