In recent years, Sophie Thatcher has proven herself to be a rapidly rising star in Hollywood, especially in thehorrorscene, and with the release of hernew film alongside Jack Quaid, it is the perfect time to rate all four of her horror films. Thatcher’s career started fairly recently, with her debut being a minor role in a 2016 episode ofChicago P.D.Just a few years later, she landed the role of Natalie inYellowjackets, which ended up being her breakout role. Since then, she has quickly accumulated a number of exciting roles.

Thatcher may not have the longest resume, but each of her projects offers a glimpse into just what kind of actress she is. For example,Thatcher’s feature film debut was in a sci-fi action film calledProspect, alongside Pedro Pascal and Jay Duplass. As a first-time actor, Thatcher had to work hard to keep up with such experienced stars. Furthermore, afterappearing inYellowjackets, Thatcher saw a notable influx in movie roles, particularly in the horror genre. Though the movies differ in terms of premise and quality, they all ultimately showcase Thatcher’s scream queen abilities.

Unsurprisingly, Thatcher’s very first horror movie is arguably her worst, though audiences should not overlook it. Released in 2023,The Boogeymanis an adaptation of Stephen King’s1973 short story of the same name. In the movie,a psychiatrist and his daughters are dealing with the loss of their wife/motherwhen a patient enters his office claiming that an evil entity has killed his children. Although the psychiatrist assumes the man is suffering from a mental illness, it turns out that this evil entity is real and coming for his family next. Thatcher plays the eldest daughter, Sadie.

In many ways,The Boogeymanis a fairly typical horror movie. Although the performances of Thatcher and her co-stars are strong, the premise itself does not necessarily go above and beyond. Audiences get exactly what they would expect from a movie about an invisible entity that feeds on children. Plus, it includes the all-too-popular trope of trauma as its background. In this way,The Boogeyman’s61% on Rotten Tomatoes is just, and puts this movie at the bottom of Thatcher’s list.

Despite the fact that Thatcher’s role in small inMaXXXine,it is a very welcome addition. In general,MaXXXineboasts an incredibly talented cast, from Goth to Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth Debicki to Lily Collins. With just a small bit of screen time,Thatcher conveys the cool girl personality that makes her so likable. In terms of the movie itself,MaXXXinereceived mostly positive reviews, but ended up disappointing some fans of the franchise, who were hoping for even more from the final installment in this series. Regardless, this is a solid horror movie with plenty of gory fun.

Thus far, Thatcher’s second-best horror movie would have to beHeretic. The movie centers ontwo young women who are Mormon missionaries. While completing their house visits, they happen upon an older man who shows interest in learning more about Mormonism. Despite his odd behavior, they humor him. Yet, the women soon start to realize that his intentions may be nefarious, and worse, that there is no escape from his maze of a house. “There’s Only One Option, And It’s Sophie [Thatcher]": Why Companion’s Iris Was So Hard To Cast Explained By Director Drew Hancock

Companion writer-director Drew Hancock details why the role of Iris was so difficult to cast, and why Sophie Thatcher was the only choice.

Arguably,Companionis Thatcher’s best because it signals a turning point in her career. For the most part, Thatcher has played younger roles: high schoolers, teenage daughters, etc. However, her part inCompanionis decidedly more adult, and this is a good sign for any young actor. Hollywood is starting to see Thatcher as a serious dramatic actor, andCompanionhas given her the opportunity to show off a different side of herself. Overall,Companionis definitely worth seeing, not only for Thatcher fans, but those who enjoyhorrorand dark comedy.
