A Minecraft Moviebrings the sandbox video game world to life on the big screen, and a few familiar characters are confirmed to appear. The 2025 movie is a live-action reimagining of the 2011 best-selling video game creation. The original games are creatively driven with their sandbox gameplay and have limited characters overall because of that goal. That always made the development of aMinecraftmovie something of an intriguing decision, as it would require building a narrative and creating mostly new characters to be at the forefront ofA Minecraft Movie’s cast.
However, this does not mean that thelive-actionMinecraftmoviedoes not have any characters from the video games. There are some familiar characters and mobs (mobile entities) from theMinecraftseries that viewers will see next to Jason Momoa and his co-stars. This includes popular characters within the world of Minecraft, which is known as the Overworld. In almost every instance, the video game characters inMinecraft’s movie retain the blocky designs that are synonymous with the games. But there is one notable change in that department, too.
9Steve
Played By Jack Black
Steve is the closest thingMinecrafthas to a main character, as he has become the most recognizable player avatar throughout the series' existence. Steve is the creation of Markus Persson, who first built the character in 2009. He has since remained as one of the nine default skins for player characters inMinecraft, with his blue shirt and pants a signature part of his look. However, there is no confirmed backstory for him in the games. This makes him a rather blank slate when it comes toA Minecraft Moviebringing Steve to life in live-action.
Steve’s popularity resulted in him appearing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and ranking as the best player.
Jack Black is responsible for playing Steve inA Minecraft Movie. In the movie,Steve looks like Jack Blackas a normal human instead of retaining the game’s blocky design. He does have a blue shirt on, which retains some elements of the video game design. But, it is unclear if Steve is a native to Overworld who is an expert crafter or if he is a human who has been trapped in the new dimension for years and harnessed various skills this way.A Minecraft Moviewill reveal much more about Stevethan the video games ever did.
8Piglins
The Antagonists
The Piglins are one of the biggest groups of mob characters inMinecraft. They are naturally a neutral group in this world, but they can be passive or hostile toward players depending on different circumstances. In the games, wearing one piece of gold armor is enough to make sure Piglins do not attack. The Piglins vary in size and aggravation too. There are larger members of the species known as Piglin Brutes, which are bigger, stronger, and more hostile. Bothregular and brute versions of Piglins are inA Minecraft Movie.
The role that the Piglins will play inA Minecraft Movieis bound to be more antagonistic. They are mentioned as some of the “evil things” that the human characters encounter in Overworld. Their natural hell-like dimension of The Nether is also confirmed to factor into the movie, providing a tease to the hostility that the Piglins could pose to the characters in the main storyline.
7Creeper

A Minecraft Movie’s confirmed video game characters includes Creeper. The sneaky and popular mob characters were confirmed for a role throughA Minecraft Movie’s trailer and a glimpse of onesneaking up behind Jason Momoa’s character. Creeper’s are incredibly dangerous mobs in the games, as they silently get behind a character and then explode. They become even more powerful and dangerous in the event they are struck by lightning.
The role that the Creepers will play inA Minecraft Movieis likely to be small. They are most likely going to be mobs that pose threats to the main characters and threaten to blow them up if they are not mindful of their surroundings at all times. The exciting development will be seeing how many Creepers are present in Overworld inA Minecraft Movie, as they are common parts of the game but still somewhat limited in their allowed occupancy of the surface.
6Ghasts
Ghasts are another type ofMinecraftmob character confirmed to be inA Minecraft Movie. They are easily recognizable mobs that are like giant ghost-looking jellyfish that can fly. They are pale while, have many tentacles below them, and can fly through the sky. A Ghast alsohas the ability in the video games to shoot fireballs, which are powerful enough to kill players if hit.
A Minecraft Movieis changing the Ghasts' role in the world to a certain degree. While the design is very accurate to the games, they are used by the Piglins as a means of transportation. Withchains wrapped around them to carry the Piglins, the aimless creatures have a new purpose for the movie. Whether they are working with the Piglins out of their own decision or some larger evil plan at work in the Overworld is undetermined.
5Zombies

Zombies are another staple of theMinecraftvideo game universe. These undead hostile mobs are best known for attacking players in groups instead of individually. They do not use any weapons and instead just have melee abilities.
Althoughthey are confirmed to have a role inA Minecraft Movie, the Zombies have yet to be officially revealed in the movie. This makes their role in the film and its narrative a mystery beyond posing a problem for the main characters as they make their way through Overworld. It is possible that the film will feature many different types of zombies, ranging from villagers, babies, husks from the desert, or those drowned in the water.
4Sheep
A Rare Version Of The Mob
It is confirmed thatA Minecraft Moviewill include the sheep from the video games. Sheep are harmless mobs who offer players a means to create supplies, such as wool and mutton. In the games, sheep can be found in six different colors: white, black, gray, light gray, brown, and pink. While they are mostly aimless animals that roam freely around Overworld, they do follow players and can be found in small flocks.
The appearance of sheep inA Minecraft Movieis mostly notable because of its color.The pink sheep is the most rarekind of sheep in the entire game, as there is less than a one percent chance that a sheep will have pink wool. But, one will still be featured in the live-action movie through the CGI creations.
3Llamas

Llamas are also inA Minecraft Movie. In the games, llamas are a neutral mob that players can tame. They are beneficial when it comes to moving large objects andeven have llama spit, just like in real life, although it can cause death for players inMinecraft. The animals can also be used for breeding. There are also rare variants of the animal known as trader llama.
It is unconfirmed exactly what role the llamas will play inA Minecraft Movie. It is known that one will encounter a group of Piglin and not be phased by the rampaging army that nearly hit it with an arrow. They could ultimately be a source of comedy in the final runtime.
2Wolves
The Last Animal Mob
A wolf is another neutral mob inMinecraftthat has a place in the live-action movie. They can be tamed by players and used to fight other hostile mobs afterward. Wolves can also be bred once they are tamed. The animals also have the ability to teleport inMinecraft, asthey will be teleported to the player if there is too much distancebetween them, as long as a few different criteria are not met.
The wolf inA Minecraft Moviedoes not have a confirmed role within the story. As it has only been seen howling at the moon at night, there is no telling whether it is tamed. It will be left for the movie to reveal more about what the wolves do in the movie and if they are animals that will scare or help the human characters and Steve.

The Glowing Purple Eyes Are Notable
Enderman is not confirmed forA Minecraft Movieat this point, but there are signs that he has a role in the story. First off,Enderman is the name of a tall mob from the video games that can be in every dimension within Overworld. He’s commonly displayed with an all-black figure and purple glowing eyes. Enderman is also connected to the dimension known as The End and the famous Ender Dragon, a powerful beast with some similar characteristics.

There is no character inA Minecraft Moviethat directly matches Enderman’s video game appearance, but a shorter, possibly hooded,black figure with purple eyes is among the Piglin army. This can been in the image above, which is also pulled fromA Minecraft Movie’s trailerat the 40-second mark. This character appears to be holding a staff of some kind and is looking directly at a human character who has stumbled upon the Piglin lair in The Nether. Since all the Piglin have reddish-orange eyes, the purple eyes seen here are very distinct and familiar for Enderman.
It is possible thatA Minecraft Movieis going to change Enderman and evolve the neutral mob character from the games into something closer to a final boss or overarching villain for the series.The movie adaptation needed to find a main villainfor the story from the limited video game lore one way or another, and using Enderman as the basis for that makes sense. Even if that’s not ultimately where the story goes, the figure with the purple glowing eyes among the Piglin suggests that Enderman will be a major force withinA Minecraft Moviesomehow.
