Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Will Trent season 3, episode 6, “No Faith in Second Chances.”
Will is seemingly happier than ever with Marion inWill Trentseason 3, but viewers shouldn’t expect their relationship to last. The ABC police procedural TV show, created by Liz Heldens, Daniel T. Thomsen, and Karin Slaughter, is based on Slaughter’s book series of the same, following the work and personal life of GBI Special Agent Will Trent. For most ofWill Trent,Will has been in an on-and-off relationship with Angie Polaski. However, followingthe ending ofWill Trentseason 2, their romance is seemingly over forever, resulting in Will looking elsewhere for love.

ABC releases new episodes ofWill Trentair on Tuesdays at 8 pm ET. Season 3 is expected to have 18 episodes, the highest in the TV show’s history.
Will arresting Angie was the final nail in their coffin, and now, Gina Rodriguez’sMarion Alba is Will’s new love interest inWill Trentseason 3. Rodriguez joined the main cast, suggesting she plays a big role. So far, that is proving to be true. After Will and Marion (an ADA) flirted for a few episodes, he finally asks her out on a date in episode 6, “No Faith in Second Chances.” Will makes Marion dinner, and they hit it off. With 12 episodes left inWill Trentseason 3, though, anything can happen, andfans shouldn’t get their hopes up concerning Will and Marion’s longevity.

Will & Marion Are A Good Fit, But They Won’t Likely Last
If The TV Show Follows The Books, Will’s Endgame Is Someone Else (Not Angie)
Will and Marion have a lot of chemistry inWill Trentseason 3, as evidenced in episode 6. They also share many things in common — an affinity for the truth, a strong sense of duty to their respective jobs, they have both just got out of long-term relationships, and their families are both from Puerto Rico. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean their relationship will be Will’s last one in the ABC police procedural TV series. In fact, if the show follows the books, Marion certainly won’t be his endgame (spoiler alert — the following contains light spoilers from theWill Trentnovels).
8 Reasons Why Will & Angie Should NOT Get Back Together In Will Trent Season 3
After Will arrested Angie at the end of Will Trent season 2, their relationship came to an end, and it should stay that way in season 3.
Like the ABC TV show, Will has an on-and-off relationship with Angie in Karin Slaughter’s book series. However, their romance isn’t meant to be as they ultimately break up for good. Instead, a woman named Sara Linton enters Will’s life. Sara, a pediatrician and medical examiner, moves to Atlanta, where she meets Will and the two characters form a strong bond. Many consider this to be Will’s healthiest relationship in the novelsand are anxiously awaiting her arrival on the show. In May 2024, Ramón Rodríguez discussed the possibility of Sara joiningtheWill TrentcastwithTVLine. He said:
“We’ve talked about it. You know, it’s a big deal. We don’t take that lightly. It’s such a big character in the books, and would potentially be a big character in the series, so we want to be really mindful [about how we do that].”
While Rodríguez didn’t confirm thatWill Trentwould one day introduce Sara, it seems inevitable. Yes, the ABC police procedural drama doesn’t follow the books to a tee, but Sara is such a monumental part of Will’s life on paper that it just makes sense to adapt her for the screen. Based on all this information,Will and Marion’s relationship likely has an expiration date.Plus, it doesn’t help that Marion doesn’t exist in the books. Only time will tell ifWill Trentcompletely ignores the novels and makes Will end up with Marion or if Sara will arrive in Atlanta one day.
When Might Sara Linton Debut In Will Trent
Sara Is An Iconic Character In Karin Slaughter’s Book Series
Since Marion is serving asWill’s love interest inWill Trentseason 3, Sara probably won’t appear anytime soon. Of course, this is all riding on the assumption that the TV show’s writers want to incorporate Sara into the story. If so,Sara could have a big role in season 4.ABC hasn’t renewedWill Trentfor a fourth season, but the show has been performing quite well for the network, meaning it’s very likely the police procedural drama will return for the 2025–2026 season.

Will’s true love from theWill Trentbooksmay also make a surprise appearance during the season 3 finale. Since the aboveTVLineinterview, though, the cast and crew haven’t spoken about the possibility of Sara’s introduction. As a result, this is simply speculation. Still,Sara’s presence would indicate that Will won’t end up with Marion.Going forward, viewers should keep that in mind asWill Trentseason 3 continues building Will and Marion’s romantic bond.
