WhileWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2is easily one of the most content-rich single-player games in a long time, it also doubles as an incredible co-op adventure. From the legendary campaign to the replayable Operations missions, all ofSpace Marine 2can be played with a friend. While solo players will still be able to appreciate the struggles and triumphs of Titus' journey, co-op players will be able to embrace the camaraderie that the game excels at portraying.
However, many are likely wondering whetherSpace Marine 2has local co-op, especially as it hearkens back to the 360 era of splitscreen-focused third-person shooters like Gears of War. With so manymissions inWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2to blast through with a friend, the ability to share a couch and screen with a friend would be incredible. Of course, with more and more games removing local co-op, including the likes of the once splitscreen-proudHalofranchise, it’s no surprise fans are worriedSpace Marine 2won’t include it.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Does Not Have Local Co-Op
Players Cannot Play Space Marine 2 Multiplayer Splitscreen
While there are plenty ofhidden features inSpace Marine 2, unfortunately, local co-op is absolutely not one of them. Fans can absolutely play all three game modes together through online co-op, which will require a subscription service for those on console. However, for players who were hoping to completeSpace Marine 2’scampaign with a friend quite literally by their side, they’re out of luck.
It is worth noting that the originalSpace Marinegame did not feature any form of splitscreen co-op. It had an online-only co-op mode, but there was no local co-op support, despite its contemporaries offering it.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’slack of local co-op will probably come as no surprise to most advocates of splitscreen gameplay, as the option has largely been removed from gaming culture altogether. While there are still a handful that choose to include the feature, including the excellentBaldur’s Gate 3, the majority of games have done away with it.
This is largely due to performance constraints, with splitscreen co-op proving too costly and difficult to implement thanks to modern gaming’s penchant for gorgeous visuals, as well as a shift in focus to online multiplayer.

Space Marine 2 Is Unlikely To Add Local Co-op
The Feature Has Not Been Announced At All
WhileWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’sroadmaphas been revealed, detailing brand-new game modes and features coming in the next few years, it does not mention the inclusion of local co-op. This is a huge shame for fans of splitscreen co-op, but not surprising in the slightest.
It’s also unlikely that Saber Interactive will change its mind when it comes to adding splitscreen to Space Marine 2, especially after the likes of 343 ditching splitscreen co-op inHalo: Infiniteor Larian having to remove it for the Series S version ofBaldur’s Gate 3.

Alas, splitscreen co-op is a thing of the past, at least for now. It’s possible that future consoles may be powerful enough to allow for splitscreen co-op and gorgeous visuals and that the negative shift in perception of live service games and online multiplayer may hopefully see the return of heading to a friend’s house and playing literally side by side.
However, for now,Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2does not offer any form of local co-op, although players who have their own copy, platform to play it on, and, presumably, their own couch, can enjoy it together online.
